VR is essential.
According to the Steam Hardware Survey, 24% of users now have a VR setup; with the most popular headset currently been the Oculus Quest 2. Thats pretty much a quarter of all Steam users now have VR to some degree.

You also have to keep in mind that the Steam Hardware Survey is highly dependant on what hardware is connected to the system at the time the survey is taken also, and a lot of people will disconnect their VR headsets for safe storage when not in use. I do that with my own, as it reduces the risk of damage when not in use.
Fair enough, I read the survey wrong.
Point I made still stands though, there are more PC VR users than the "total" 2% steam shows. Since the Rift S, and especially since Oculus link released for the Oculus quest; VR devices have been selling more and more as it has become more affordable. I expect there to be another jump in Quest 2 sales now Oculus Air Link has been released, which means people can have a fully wireless PC VR experience. Not to mention the Quest 2 just received an update that allows it to run at 120hz refresh rate too.
You have to ask yourself why even EA (outside of Codemasters) has started to slowly add VR to titles (or make VR only titles); such as Star Wars Squadrons and Medal of Honour. EA never make any decisions like that, unless it is profitable for their shareholders. No way a company like EA would begin a VR strategy if only 2% of the PC gamer player base has and actively uses VR.
I was hoping the move to EA would push Codemasters to add VR into this years F1 game, but obviously not.
Even Activision are dipping their toes into VR, and filing patents for VR specific game mechanics and hardware controllers for VR.
Codemasters are just stuck in the mud when it comes to VR.
VR is a minor market. Consider the fact that F1 as a whole is already appealing to a niche audience and has only recently started to appeal to a wider one after introducing a varied career mode.
If you feel like not having VR is keeping you from buying this game, then maybe you should see the bigger picture and consider the fact that it's probably the actual game that you should be interested in, rather than just one gimmick.
I think its essential too & if you think its a gimmick you've clearly never tried it.
VR is game changing for sim racing & once youve tried you will never want to race in pancake mode again.
The price of a Rift S is 299£ totally affordable for most gamers
