That's unacceptable. I can understand Melbourne, as they have actually redesigned the track, but Yas Marina? I was thrilled they had taken those chicanes out of the layout.

I used to race there in GTR2, mostly endurance races, and I hated driving that layout in GT cars.
In F1 cars those chicanes were a crime against humanity, so imagine how excited I was to seed that finally Yas Marina decided to make a change that score of fans have been asking for ever since the first F1 race there.

I somehow missed these changes to Abu Dhabi, but I was tickled pink at the idea of racing there, as I by and large very much like the rest of the track.

I opened F1 2021, (which principally I bought to be able to race at the Zandwoort's new layout, Zand being one of my favorite tracks), looking forward to trying the new F1 layout.

In my first lap I just zoomed past the first chicane after the pit exit because I just assumed they had complied with the actual track.
No dice. Same old track. I was very disappointed.

I understand that it's not as simple as just removing a few cones and opening the track. The surface needs to be optimized, AIs taught the new track in various driver levels, etc.

However, that's no excuse.

This game is called Formula One 2021. I paid good money to recreate the 2021 F1 championship as close to reality as possible. I honestly don't care how much extra work it is for Codies to make the appropriate changes.

The new track layout should be there. Period.

I am not intransigent in these matters. If because of the Pandemic F1 had to drop a track and race elsewhere, I'd understand the position Codies would be in.

This is NOT that. These changes were announced in early Summer, and it's not like these tracks are laser scanned, requiring another trip on site.
One change is literally a matter of using the existing track.

What I said earlier about AIs and surfaces is true, it is definitely a consideration, but maybe Codemaster should start considering making all tracks with variable configurations, like Yas Marina or Le Castellet, for instance, easier to change at a moment's notice by making sure that the entire track surface is mapped properly, just in case.

Essentially, I would do my darn best to plan track development taking possible changes into consideration, so that if a change is made, a minimal effort would make the change easier.

There are hobbyist that are able to make very impressive tracks and cars for other games/sims and they release them for free. Someone mapped out the Targa Florio, for Pete's sake. Codemaster cannot change a chicane on a track that is designed to have multiple layouts?

Very disappointing. I realize F1 20XX is a game for the masses and that most people won't even notice, or care, about the different layouts, chicanes, etc.

But as I have said multiple times in the past, taking into consideration the opinions and the suggestions of the hard core Sim Community, rather than discount them out of hand as Codies have done for decades now, would be beneficial for the franchise, because our opinions and reviews about the game count. Maybe they count a bit more than Codies think.
I am going to give F1 2021 a big fat thumbs down in part for this Yas marina screw up.
How many people will see my review and will NOT buy this game, or the next, based on it?

I know for a fact that at l;east many in the sim racing community will read my argument and possibly choose to pass on 2021 because of it.
Had codies spent the effort to at least getting close to the actual track, I probably would have reviews it more favorably.

I am (almost) OK with the button based interface that is absolutely maddening for PC based games. I am OK with the obscure interface and game settings that still tells me I have no mapped controllers every time I start the game.

I understand how hard it is to satisfy the casual gamer and the serious sim-racer and I am more than willing to wave away issues like that.,

But tracks and cars are what the game is all about. Having the wrong track layout in a racing game is inexcusable, outside of force majeure.
