Gem smith

I found t his gem smith(or gem master forgot the name) in city of flesh but I couldn't find the "machine" she is talking about to open the door. Since there is no map available in certain parts I can't seem to locate it.

I'm currently stuck here too. I assumed the machine was something to do with all the pillars in the room but it seems not? I also didn't see the instruction manual she mentioned. There's no obvious other route to take.

If I remember correctly
1. you need to find some kind of puzzle clue(disk shape thing?) around under area of 1st rolling boulders thing
2. after you find it go back to gem smith area, pillar thing will ready for use
3. follow order by description write on that puzzle disk

Do you need to go down the pits where those boulders fall down after going down their horizontal corridors? Will either of those pits kill you?

neither pit will kill you. you want to go down the left most pit.

Yeah I figured it out. There is a pool area where you find an object. Once you find it, the puzzle will appear near the gem smith. You activate pillars in the correct order and she is freed. I wish she offered more though. It's useful to trade gems for orbs but I was hoping to unsocket gems or upgrade em or other neat features.

But yes I'm also confused about what service she provides. I could have sworn I saw some mention of her combining gems? I thought she'd turn them into larger better gems to go into the same sockets.

What does she actually do? Just give you the "medkit" orbs and the drone energy ones in return for crafting materials?

If anything that seems like the opposite of what I'd want to do...

In what way is her doing that related to gem smithing?
