How to use trinitite and energy shards??

Can someone please explain how to use these? They are both in my items inventory but there are no instructions on how to use them. Their descriptions say they are for upgrades but there is no option to use them. Only a option to drop them. I've found no instructions in game and google yields no information either.

Go to the shop and hover over the weapon(s) you would like to upgrade. Simple as that.

Trinitite chunks upgrade your weapons by levels whereas energy shards are the in-game currency that you use to buy things from the shop, including payment for upgrading weapons with trinitite chunks.
