Overthrown

Overthrown

Thoughts so far
So I've got around 10 Hours into the game so far, in three different play throughs, Each one ending around day 10-15 or so in game.

I've enjoyed the game so far, but It also feels a bit... Muddled when you get up past 40 population. Though I really do want to have a huge sprawling kingdom filled with farms, shops and Castles.

Each play through, (with patches considered) have been better than the previous one, but each has ended up with pathing issues for the Citizens, where either Wood or food production Drags a hard halting point. Doubly when The Eventual raid occurs of 20+ Rebels which End to either end the kingdom due to the Struggle to Get folks happy enough to keep going, or Just enough damage is done to want me to reset and start over.

With this in mind, beyond just getting the Citizens to path better, I'd love to see a bit more investment into the Economy of the game, so that the kingdom can be easier to manage the more You invest into it, rather than becoming more and more troublesome the more you work on it.

My thoughts would be adding More to research, rather than unlocking things but research that are offshoots of the unlocks that improve the Gathering/Resource side of things, so that late game farms, rather than needing to be sprawling and dominate the map while still struggling to feed the Citzens could be more compressed and contained. Even stuff as simple as each Vegetable patch gives 1-2 Additional Veggies or Each Tree cut down gives 1-2 Additional wood. Something small, but enough that it pays to invest into your people.

My other wish lists would just be more variations of buildings, Would love to see 2-3 variations of the Generic house that fit into the same Build frame so that Cities can eventually look more Creative.

To the Devs, I'm loving the game so far, And have big hopes for its success in the future.

hello hello!

thank you so much for playing and for all your feedback! we're making a bunch of balances and changes during the January update (that also brings a bunch of new content)! with that in minds here's a few things! Pathfinding and more optimization (ESPECIALLY with steep staircases and the spiral staircases) will be a'comin as well!

- Research: We absolutely agree with you on this and working on making the research a lot more interesting based off of engagement as a few others have noted on this. We'll also be bringing in 3 different modes (Creative, Balanced and Challenging) for if folks really just want to focus on building without much worry

- Economy: will have to get back to you on this part! i remember we were discussing something to improve this but i don't fully remember off the top of my head aside from some of the later updates on the roadmap introducing ships - of which trade ships can be used to further the economy. one user on the discord brought up marketplaces and i haven't brought this up with the others yet but i think it would be SUPER COOL if you could build a marketplace and the trade ships dock at their docking area and can come and browse your market place for a day - that'd make stuff feel more alive i reckon

- Building Variants: there's still a lot of normal buildings we're working on getting - but at some point we're going to get more variants of townhomes, but also getting Townhouse Blocks for being able to create more fun and interesting housing districts. having more home variants will also add a lot to the district type thing like - a cute cozy little moss coated home for your logging and harvesting areas and cool steel homes for your mining district 100%

aside from the january update, the one after that is the parks update and part of the parks update will be bringing in lots of decoration! if you have any requests for decorative items let me know! at some point i'd like if the npcs would interact with these decorations like - go sit on a bench and you get little butterflies flying around when your citizens are too stressed and they can recover stress like this (might be a hot minute, we only have 1 animator on our team and this would take a bit of time to get done)

again thank you for taking the time to give your thoughts! it's extremely helpful for us to hear what folks have to say so we can take it back and do what we can to make it a better experience with every update!

Awesome to get such a quick reply!

-Economy-
I think I should elaborate on what I mean by economy, as the idea of airships and trade posts do sound cool! But I was more meaning towards what is already in the game.

The Citizens all have various needs, which require buildings, If you were to do a Market set up, an easy fix would just allow Those markets to be pick up points for the various goods. Like...

if the Bakery has a Range around it that Supports 15 Citizens, then a Market place would have a larger range and would draw from all Bakery's Excess Supplies to provide goods. Meaning you could have Civilian Districts of lots of houses with a Market at its core, with 2-3 Bakeries at the edge of town to provide the Bread needed to boost the needs of the more condensed population centres. Likewise with the Beer, or pies etc.

Add in an Airship docking point, maybe with Trade routes that leave the map (So less animation requirements) or to other Trade posts where you can Bring in Rare Goods in exchange for coin so that your Citizens get Higher benefits Form those markets?

-Research-
Good to hear that your already tackling it! I Didn't want to suggest extra work, but I did like the idea of investing into things over time just to be better at them, Would love to have a super effective small farm able to feed the city, or Improving Mines, even if its just speeding up the Tread animation of the Diggers To show That they are pulling more from the nodes per second etc.

The idea of making the Sawmill/Logging caps super effective via research so that we can use Less to produce more, and up the Cozy factor over the Industrial complex would be nice.

-Building Variants-
Awesome to hear! I Do love the idea of mossy roofs And the idea of just blocks so that we can build our own structures!

Decoration Requests:
More lights~ right away my brain is buzzing with ideas associated with the Moss comment, I'd love to see the Decorations (Eventually) Cover three different "Moods" The current set is a great baseline for the Small town vibes, but I'd love to see the "Cozy woods" Vibe Added, like having a lantern similar to the existing one, but hanging from a carved piece of wood, or benches made from an old log etc. Things that Fit into the nature vibe. Then a "High City" Version, with taller lamps, fancier Benches, maybe those Spiral metal ones etc. vibes of the nobles or merchants would hang out.

I'd also love if we could get Hedge Blocks, So that we can have Walls in areas of hedges, or Make Hedge mazes. Maybe have them not be full solid like the current wall blocks, but act like the bushes or smaller items, so that the Character can run through them but slowed down slightly? Less work than making a solid object I hope!
