The extensive customizations are just renamed abilities that give the same outcome in game no matter what you choose. For instance, whether I am hitting an enemy with a stream of water, hot plasma or shadow bolt, they simply fall unconscious, start running away or my favorite-- brush it off and keep fighting. Really? Some thugs can be sprayed with searing hot plasma and keep fighting, Run away, Fall unconscious? How about no. They would be dead or extensively injured if they're lucky to escape the reaper. That's just lazy. If you can't deliver the extensive list of abilities advertised, don't try to implement them as silly illusion choices.

And don't try to save everybody or low key dictate the players moral limit with plot armor and deus ex machinas. It's a very very bad look. If I'm a villain, why do I want to save kids? Why do I want to keep up the image of a hero? Why do I want to keep living the life of a pleb when I can elevate myself above the rank & file with my powers? Why is it whenever I attempt to kill someone, they're just stunned? Why do other villains merely stun cops rather than kill them? I hardly think a villain who took the time to break into a museum to steal a precious power source is merely going to leave incapacitated witnesses in their wake. It's silly and unnatural. Like for instance, I went to visit the mutant cockroach I supposedly fried with my plasma in his homeless alley and instead of being given the choice to finish this known criminal, I (Super flying, plasma spewing, sword & gun toting super being) was scared off by some unwashed homeless savages banging on trashcans? Seriously? Given the choice I would've humbled each and everyone of those wretches without losing a blink of sleep. If you have an issue with death & gore, that's fine but then stay away from genres where its a reality. I don't need some soft heart author projecting their personal scruples onto me.

The author got on my near last nerve with their fascination with Japan/Japanese/Asian culture. In the story the author has Americans using the Japanese language to code name threat levels. It's highly awkward and unnatural. No matter if the Japanese were the first to use a classification system, Americans would translate it into English for our personal usage. You would never ever hear American people walking around going "There's a yon-kyu! A Ni-kyu! A Gon-kyu!" They would say "There a Threat level 4! Threat level 2! Threat level 5!' ect & so forth. Furthermore, we wouldn't be focusing on advertising Japanese heroes in the paper or on the news when we have our own, never mind every other nation across the globe having them as well. And why are Japanese assassins coming half way across the world to meddle in American real estate crime? And why must my choice of food joint be an Asian fusion restaurant? The weeb ain't that strong with me, Bro.

Another annoying thing about this story is most of if is spent primarily on office politics and petty social squabbles. So many times I was like "Can we get to the power toting action already?" but was left trying to navigate the filler politics of trying to ingratiate myself to my coworkers and boss for a promotion. *eye roll*

I wholeheartedly do not recommend this. It is deceptive, boring and weeb heavy.

Another super hero game. Okay, yeah I got it. Who doesnt want to spend a few hours being impossibly cool and bad ass? Saddly this game doesnt deliver that feeling well at all.

You do get to pick from alot of different things to make your super hero, well super! And I mean alot. Then you get to flesh it all out with how your costume looks, and even a bit of pre shadowing what kind of super hero (or villian) you are! And thats where the coolness ends.

Saddly it seems the main game play doesnt care at all what kind of powers you have, or let you use them in any fun way. There is a section when choosing your "powers" that arnt powers at all, but normal things like, athletics, hunting, fighting. having more money, and it seems like 90 percent of the game revolves around your skill (or lack of) with these mundanes. In my play through I never once got to leap across and take an enemy by surprise, despite this being my main super hero skill granting me extreme agility. Not only that but apparently super heros, even ones with super human agility, cant dodge every bullet. Most of them but not all, so every time some one shot at me, i got hit. And you get shot at alot. at the beginning of the game this is not fatal, as you can go get your wounds healed, at the cost of money of course. Later in the game though, you literaly get shot at every time you turn a corner... 4 corners later my super fast marksman ninja bunny is dead from unavoidable bullets. Oh and i died broke too, on account of my own, and someone elses medical bills.

So basicly, lots of choices, but it looks like if you dont have super health and super stamina, it doesnt matter. Because the other skills grant no in game choice advantages. Also apparently your going to need to take all the first aide choices you can to avoid going broke at the doctors.

In a word, its unbalanced and not fun. Ninja Rabbits should avoid at all costs, for others your mileage may vary.

This game isn’t the best, but it’s certainly not the worst Choice of Games/Hosted Games has to offer. I usually love all these superhero/villain CYOA games, but this one left me feeling a little disappointed.


Positives:

-A lot of customisation. I spent a fair amount of time picking and choosing things.
-Choice of being a hero or a villain (who would've guessed), and actually getting to do bad things.
-The world updates on the news were cool.
-3/4 hours long, so not too bad in length.
-The idea of having a secret identity and juggling your real life/superhero life was interesting.
-Having different difficulty settings is a welcome addition, although I had 0 issues with the default one.

Negatives:

-Fight scenes can get stuck in this weird loop of repeating the same attacks/dialogue. This feels like it shouldn’t have gotten past beta testing.
-Pretty much all the characters are bland and one dimensional. My “romance” character had 2 scenes and then we were in love. My mother only existed to beg me for money.
-There’s a heavy focus on the job aspect and it was... incredibly boring and almost outweighed the action parts.
-The epilogue is awful. I’m not sure what is with superhero CYOA games ending with getting abducted to an alien planet, but there you go.



Overall I’d give it 4/10. I think the sale price is somewhat reasonable, but since there are much better titles for the same price, I don't think I can recommend it.

I'm going to come straight up and say it: this game is not worth its price.
I'm not saying it's not worth your time or to play it, I am merely stating that, in the current market, there are far better investments of both resources.
It is still quite cheap, and if you have a few hours to kill you can give it a try, just don't expect too much. The main part about enjoying this game is that you probably have to already like this flavor of stories - superheroes and whatnot - or else, due to it not being exceptional or... all that good to begin with, you're not going to have an easy time enjoying it.

I like it, and I'm giving it a recommended, but I can also easily, objectively see that most won't and chances are that's you. If I had to come up with a target audience for this game, I would say children who enjoy the superhero genre; I can't see many adults being content with their purchase.

I'd say... 4.8 out of 10 everything considered. That is regularly not a passing grade, but I did draw some enjoyment out of fooling around with the options and cannot be honest with myself if I were to give it a not-recommended. You don't have to acknowledge a game is good in order to like it.

I liked exploring and exhausting the options... and was done surprisingly soon. The game also uses A LOT of its core regardless of what you do, so choices don't matter a lot. This is the first game of its genre that I play and so far I gotta say that I'm not impressed.

So be forewarned there will be many somewhat non-specific spoilers in the review below, though if you play the demo you'll find out who the mech i'm often referring to is pretty fast.
So I found this story to be exceedingly annoying to play, it has the typical problem these games have where you will make decisions you think are consistent but leave your personality stats all over the place because the author has their own idea of what you should be choosing rather than being consistent. Other times your stats don't matter, like relationship stats, I spent time invading an antagonists dreams and improving our relationship, but it changed nothing at all about our interactions even after we met outside of our alter ego personas, based on the stats she should be in love with me but reacts to me exactly the same way as a previous play through where she hated me for foiling her plots. So how relevant your stats are and "when" they are relevant are invisible and unknowable to the player at all times.

The paragraph above is common for these type of games, but the big problems for me where the frustratingly blatant ex machina moments where a main antagonist gets away every time even though you can teleport or move at eight times normal speed, and they are in a large mech suit, and you have no option to chase after the antagonist in these encounters. Another moment where I can move at twice human speed, have bullet proof skin, heal from any injury in half an hour and somehow she, in a dress not a mech suit, manages to react to my movement enough to scratch me with a vaguely defined really "sharp nail", leaving me temporarily incapacitated from the poison enough for her to smugly walk away, which given my abilities should be implausible at best, also she can make a camera drone that can follow a someone who can teleport home, somehow she managed is the best explanation we get. So game play is frequently sacrificed and often irrelevant in favour of the authors favourite characters rather than branching stories.

Other major problems that have no doubt been touched on by others are:
- Your Mother's existence is to solely to extract cash from you, and even if you decide you've always hated her guts she reacts to you the same way with "love you lots" despite the player having chosen that you have a terrible relationship. I also live in Canada so the treatment of your character's Mother and her having cancer, well I'll explain. Apparently she needs to fork over 2 grand every couple weeks or her doctors tell her shes gonna die without her meds, which is both horrifying to me and strikes me as a criminal racket akin to the periodic mugging of a sick person.
- There are very few characters I liked enough to consider romancing, and most of them are either shallow or don't get enough screen time to matter. The ones I tended to be interested in exploring also never crossed my path or gave me an opportunity to explore the option.
- Being a villain isn't a full time job for some reason, I can rip an armored mech apart with my bare hands but still have to work a normal job for poorly defined reasons.
- Only applicable jobs you can choose from rarely have overlap with your super abilities, unless you pick tech and play as Iron Man, forcing you to have to branch out your stats too much or be poor.
- Not all power sets you can choose from are equal, so you won't be able to go full Tatsumaki with telekinesis and the mech person I keep talking about has an antenna that makes her immune to psi, while she can easily make up 75% of the fights in a play through.
- Your character runs away from the prospect of having to fight large groups of people even though they are incapable of hurting you or overpowering you, unless they are classified as "minions" of a super villain
- All attacks boil down to an "x" damage so hitting a random guy with plasma doesn't instantly kill him
- This one is a more serious spoiler but very relevant and since the sequel is out I guess its not too huge of a spoiler, nothing you do in this first game really matters because the second one takes place on another planet, because aliens. Seriously that is how the story ends, an alien comes in the middle of the night and pokeballs you. You are now a battle thrall to fight for their amusement gladiator style.

TL;DR Not recommended, I was morbidly curious and while I may still fiddle with it I would definitely rate it below a 5/10 which is an automatic not recommended in my book. There are too many times where the "choice" the player made in this choose your own adventure style game ends up being ignored in favour of where the author wants to go. This author has you on railroad tracks and will god mod their way through any choice you want to make, so like I would with similar D&D Dungeon Masters I recommend not playing with them.

Remember the time when we had choice in games?

Well, this game is (supposed to be) all about choice. And then it just ends abruptly, without even giving you a chance to finish any of your plot lines, leaving you with a general feeling of "what the hell happened".
Sure, you can play again and choose differently, but at this point you think why bother.

Superhero, yes. But most of the time you can spend juggling your own problems, like MOM DYING or WORK NOT DONE NO MONEYS, the opposite of a fun superhero game.
Suppose you can, again, try once more and choose differently (seredpity?), but, again, why bother...

Want real choice? Try "Choice of Robots" or even better, MetaHuman Inc. Same publisher, different story.

Even on sale, not worth the price. I don't know, i it was okay while playing/reading it, but it is kind of forgettable and the fights (at least in my play-through on normal difficulty) were a blow-through. 4/10, fine but not something I'd really recommend.

Just finished first play through. I liked it overall, most of the psychic powers felt useful, early game is pretty nice, a lot of what I was looking for, mid game was kinda eh, picked up for the last arc, which was great...right up until the
epilogue which I absolutely hated and wish was not included. Overall I would say it has good replayability at least. I do wish there was an option for checkpoint saves, to avoid redoing the entire early game again each time, if you want to keep the same character concept.

Positives:
A lot of options for powers and difficulty
Plenty of choices for how to approach fights
Early hero/villain dynamics seemed pretty interesting
Plot seems to branch out significantly later on, I expect the other ending sections of the game to be completely different than the one I took.

Downsides:
Most of the characters feel a bit bland. They have names, and say and do things, but don't really show much depth, and none of them ever quite feel like actual people to get attached to.
Unsatisfying epilogue, pretty much just set up for a sequel, but I was quite unhappy with it, and felt it invalidated everything before it.

Would be nice to actually start out as a villain and not be force to either be a hero or pretend to be one. There are no superhero nor supervillain teams to join. The only team one can join is a generic Suicide Squad.

Just about every character in the story in a leadership position is a women for some reason, the mayor, the wallstreet ceo, the supervillain genius power armor user, the leader of the generic Suicide Squad, the top hero in the world from Japan, the boss at office, the police chief, the vampire leader, and so on. Even this one superhero spends half the time treating my character like rubbish, and even calls him a ♥♥♥♥♥ in Spanish, but then gets mad if I point out how overwhelmingly incompetent the person is. She even expects me to be defaulted to being her side kick to meet the only character in the game that is a guy in a leadership position.

Every battle is the same with the powers relabeled. And unless I am a powerful psychic, any face off with the psychic hero will leave my brain damaged in some way. Once things finally start getting good, the game ends with the same scripted ending that forces a player to the same conclusion. The mother character is rather annoying. Whether all the money is sent or not, there is no way to tell if she even gets cured. And it seems like the same scenario in the other game by the same company and writer with the robots, only there is a chance to know whether she gets cured or not.

Overall, choice does not matter in most instances. The results tend to be the same. The narrow pathing really is a bother as it makes the choices have no impact. The game could of been a whole lot better, but it seems more like an sjw writer wanting to put as many Mary Sue characters in a game as the writer can, and then fill in the gaps with narrow pathways of story with a thin veil of illusioned choice.

Very diverse options! Many different power sets and with varying ranges on your abilities, with a number of story hurdles progressing differently based on your choices. The ability to be a villain is always a plus, as well as violence and non-violence being (usually) viable solutions to a problem. You can tell this was a passionate author, and the difficulty selection as a mechanic was inspired. Certainly enjoyable, especially for the price, with some nice replay value.
