Stats too high, game ends?

If your stats get too high, sometimes the game just ends, and says thanks for playing, even on the others. Is this some type of hacking countermeasure, because besides editing the hero points in the beginning, nothign else has been changed.

Is this game really hard, or do I just suck?

I've been trying to do an Iron Man type thing on Normal difficulty, but I keep running into problems that I just can't really solve. Am I doing something wrong?
