Is Mom's Knife worth it?

Range increases Mom's Knife charge rate ( like tears up ), it doesnt affect it's range nor its damage. But to answer the OP, yes it's worth picking up, as it's very powerful. it's kinda tricky to use but once you get used to it you just wreck everything.

And if you're lucky enough to get Polyphemus with it, you'll just oneshot bosses :)

I had a good run with Samson and Mom's Knife (of all people) - the rage and mom's knife are a killer combo.

Actually items DO matter when you pick Mom's Knife, as there are quite a few of them that don't synergise well with it or even make it worse.

Some items to avoid : Lump of Coal, Brimstone, IPECAC, Technology 1/2, Inner Eye/Mutant Spider, Tough Love, Loki's Horns, Mom's Eye, Chocolate Milk...

Great items to pick : Any damage/tears/range ups ( specially Polyphemus ), The Virus, My Little Unicorn/Book of Shadows, Wiggle Worm, damaging orbitals ( Guardian Angel, Sacrificial Dagger, Cube of Meat ) etc.

Most of the items you listed to avoid just means that Mom's Knife overrides them, with the exception of triple/quad shot and tech 2 which are a detriment to Mom's Knife.

Yes, that's why I'm saying to avoid them. If you have the D6 you could reroll these instead of picking one up, get nothing from it and in some cases decrease your chances to get a special item.

Moms knife is always worth it in my opinion

Personally I think Mom's Knife totally rocks. About 1 hour ago or so I completed The Chest with ??? using Mom's Knife. Don't think I could have done it otherwise.
