How do I unlock Challenges?

I just bought The Binding of Isaac, and I was really excited to play some challenges, but when I loaded up the game and looked at the menu... There was no option for Challenges. I was very upset about this, and I would like to know how to unlock them?

Challenges are part of the Wrath of The Lamb DLC. Despite that I recommend that you continue playing the base game for a bit, since the difficulty gets increased by a fair amount and it's better when you get familiar with the base game first.

Alternatively you could wait until the remake Binding of Isaac: Rebirth releases later this year, it will have more challenges and you can get a discount on it when you own the original game.

The challenges come with the dlc. I suggest not buying the dlc til you have invested a few hours into the game as it'll be easier for you. I bought the dlc and the game at the same time as i had been watching gameplay for years and still thought the base game would have been easier. Another thing, once you have the dlc you start with 4 challenges you gain 5-9 after gaining access to the cathedral and the last challenge after defeating Isaac in the cathedral

I got 1-9 with the DLC

Oh sorry, 5-9 are unlocked if you have beaten moms heart atleast once, sorry for that.

Yeah, I recommend 10-15 hours before the dlc. I bought it with the base game and instantly regretted it as it takes longer to get your first mom kill by atleast 5 hours. Almost 200 hours and still missing a few achievements and I think starting witht he dlc may have been a help to that.

You're gonna have to play a lot more in my opinion. Just beat the vanilla game at least once and then buy the DLC in my opinion.

And very good and breaking/cheesing the game

That's strange, I don't recall beating mom's heart yet I unlocked challenges 1-9. Then again I also unlocked bloody lust in the same playthrough as unlocking samson.

The wiki mentions 5-9 as being unlocked by beating mom's heart. I can't personally tell you if I unlocked them that way or had them from the start as I never actually touched any of the challenges until I had beaten her for the 5th or 6th time

The unlocking system seems very bugged, then, because when I beat mom for the first time I unlocked Samson, Bloody Lust, and challenges 5-9.
