So, what exactly is this Spider Mod?
Hey guys, I've been watching Northernlion playing BoI lately and I heard him talking about this mod. I've made some quick research but didn't find much information about it.

So, what is it, exactly? Do I need it? I mean, is it an unofficial patch or something? Is it safe to install, do I lose my progress?

Thanks in advance.

Spider mod can be concidered as a kind of "integrated cheat engine" for the game.

It isn't a patch persay, more like an extention on top of the original game adding new features such as seeded runs for example.

I see, it doesn't sound like something I would desperately need, though.

What are those seeds, by the way? Like specific challenges set by users or something?

A seed is a number (or rather, more like a string or sequence of numbers) that random generation is based off of. You see, computers can only SIMULATE randomness. They can't actually be random. But all you need to know is that any two "random" generations that use the same seed will be exactly the same.

Users sometimes like to use this in Binding of Isaac to race to beat Blue Baby or maybe see who can take the least damage or something of that nature.

Also, I haven't played around much with Spidermod yet, but one cool thing that I do like to use with Spidermod is the Universal Item Pools feature, where any item can be found anywhere. For example, you might get a Deal with the Devil item from a Treasure room, or a Shop item from a Golden Chest, etc.

It is also perfectly safe as the creator of the mod is trusted by Edmund. Edmund even says the creator knows the game better than him and has even been brought aboard his team and is working on the next Isaac game with several others.

It is more than just the CheatEngine. Although it has the CheatEngine as part of it.
SpiderMod gives bug fixes, and optimization. Resizable game window, Xbox 360 controller support. Ability to take screenshots or animated gifs. Better item descriptions. Allows you to create custom runs, or give you an item(random or one you choose). Change the color of Isaac, show enemy HP, and damage numbers, gives the option to show all the items you have collecte by pressing TAB. Teleport to any room or any floor. Enable a second save slot, so you can do custom runs and not have it alter your main game progress/achievements. Backup your game save.

Probably a few other things that I don't remember. The best thing about it is, you can enable or disable any parts of the mod while still playing the run you are on. No parts are forced on you to use, and everything is optional. You could just use the bug fixes, Xbox 360 controller, and resizable window, while never touching anything that would actually significantly change your experience from the rest of the players.

I watched one Youtube video where the person set SpiderMod up to give him an Odd Mushroom everytime he went into a room(even if he had already entered the room once before), but no other items would spawn for him. When the run was finished Isaac's head was taking up the majority of the screen(still the same sized hitbox on his body). It was amusing to watch.

So, it really depends on what you want out of it. SpiderMod can really extend the enjoyment of the game.
