the bible is a pile of crap? [answered]

Ive read on the wiki that it instantly kills mom. I left a really good item to pick it up right before the mom. I used it and NOTHING happened, what the hell? How does the bible really work?

I dont have to mention that I died on mom when she had like 5%hp, if I had my previous item I'd make it...

It does instantly kill Mom, as well as Mom's Heart/It Lives. I don't know what happened on your end. It may have been a glitch or user error. The effects of the Bible are as follows:

-Gives you flying for a room
-Instantly kills Mom/Mom's Heart/It Lives
-Kills the PLAYER instantly if used against Satan/Isaac/???
-Recharges every 6 rooms normally.

Then my game is broken. I used it once to get flying and it didn't work. I was like fine, as long as it kills mom. I entered moms room, used it and NOTHING happened at all. I really dont know whats wrong but it would be my first time to kill the mom with Isaac.

i dont know why the bible didnt work in your game ,i used ist several times and it worked every time :P

The Bible is tolerable if you don't have flight or aren't very good at killing Mom yet, but the 6-room recharge time just makes it awful compared to most other things. I'm always disappointed when I find it in an Angel Room. I would much rather have nearly any other item that can appear there.

If the recharge time was lower it would be okay. Since it doesn't do anything outside of the Mom fight except letting you fly it's not really worth that 6-room charge.

I pick the bible only because I get to the mom every so often but I always die on it.

I made it only once and I have like 50 hours played.

in my opinion bible is worth picking up when you are close to the mom fight i.e. depths 1

The effect of Bible to kill Mom ONLY WORKS if the fight has started. As I can see you have said, you used it BEFORE the room.

You use it as soon as you can when you enter the boss room with mom.

It's not really bad, considering it's a very good "starting" item, when you don't have very many unlocked, like The Nail, Wafer, SMB Super-Fan, etc. In terms of usefullness, it DOES have a good usage: it's a book item, and once found, it takes a slot out of the Library pool, letting you turn any Library, for the rest of the game, into a "double" item room, if you have the D6, of course.
