New to the game
I bought this game Over a year ago and refunded it but recently picked it up again. I used to have a hard time even reaching mom but now that I can I can't defeat her, any tips I should know? (edit beat mom and i will probably buy the dlc and try to beat her heart)

Being a roguelike, much of the game is based on luck. Just play, experiment with the objects that best suit your way of playing and use them to your advantage. You will most likely need many attempts to pass it because it is not an easy game. Don't get overwhelmed and keep trying, that's what this game is about. In my case there were objects like IPECAC that made the game extremely simple for me, and in fact there are objects that you unlock as you progress to make the game even simpler or more complicated depending on which one it is. For example, you can complete challenge 1 and they will give you an activatable candle which personally helped me a lot due to the fairly high damage it has and which recharges on its own. But as I said, you will depend on luck to see what happens later in a normal game.

I also just picked up this game again after getting Dead God in Rebirth. In general you should always kill whatever is most likely to hit/kill you first in any room. If there are too many threats in a room focus on dodging and don't worry about landing tears. Sometimes it's wiser to take out lower hp enemies to make a room more dodgeable. Mastering threat assessment and movement are the keys to Isaac. Everything else you can find on the wiki xD

For the Mom fight, I've usually been hanging near the corners to avoid the hand attack while shooting at doors she appears in and any threatening spawned enemies. Works every time

Ps ~ Only play on Hard so your runs matter for achievements, if you care about that

So about that last part, are the hard mode achievements a different thing? I still get item achievements

Yeah this game more luck based than rebirth and overall harder but that's why I like it, anyways I will try to beat that challenge

Is this the reason why I didn't complete the 9th challenge (Isaac was good today)?
I finished it beating both mom and her heart and nothing happened, it is still there in the to do list :meatytears:
Well if anyone sees this I can confirm re doing it the challenge on hard mode (beat satan too) unlocked the challenge and achievement. I don't remember a hard mode being available upon release (around 2013ish) but it's kinda unavoidable now I guess :)
