Counterfeit Penny seems to be broken

Playing as ??? I picked up 50 pennies while holding it and got no extra coins. Any idea how to fix it? Frustrating to beat a challange for an item that's as useless as the broken key.

Well for me Counterfeit has aways worked for me. It has a random chance to give you an extra coin when picking one. And Rusty key works as it should in Eternal Edition update.

I use a guide that stated the key was broken (which it was at the time it was written). Glad to hear that works as intended now.

The Counterfeit though seemed to do nothing. While it's a 50% chance of not working, it seems unlikely it failed 50 times in a row. The flat and burnt penny give loads of bombs and keys.

The counterfeit coin doesn't spawn coins but it gets directly accounted to your inventory. You just have to pay attention when picking up a coin you get sometimes +1.

Ah, that could be it. I didn't notice a change and was low on money, but not quite as low as expected. If I find the Counterfeit again I'll check every pickup. Thanks

I guess it's because if you would drop new coins you would have again a chance on them to get the bonus. So just watch the number it will raise by +2/+6/+11 depending on what coin you picked up.

And I can confirm, with Eternal Edition the broken key works.
