Your choices and performance matter much more, and enemies in general are more difficult to avoid.
There is no "bullet hell" in this one, and the game breaks way less often, making the final boss fights the most intense things ever.
Eternal mode is the epitome of true challenge if you're into that sort of thing, not only does it make the bosses absolutely ridiculous, but it also makes you stronger as well, adding more room for error.
While the remake is more smooth, I feel like a certain amount of detail was lost with quite a few enemies/bosses in the transition from flash to pixel art.
The original is certainly worth buying. Rebirth may boast bigger playtimes, but it amounts to roughly the same thing since a lot of veteran players have bloated playtimes due to the two garbage characters.
