Dominion

Dominion

Ai is just too hard...
Look, I'm just a casual player... I play to have fun. Is EVERYONE in the Dominion community is a genius or something? Because these AI man, if they're made for people like YOU, they're definitly NOT made for people like me. I consider myself to be not too bad at the game. Definitly not very good, but Average would be a proper assesment of my dominion skills. Yet, I get OWNED by freaking EASY AI. How is that thing easy? An average player should beat easy AI with ease... Yet, I got to have the perfect ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game everytime. It's freaking insulting...

And don't tell me about very easy AI. This one does not even TRY to win. The gap is immense. Also, it's insulting enouph getting my ass kicked by Easy AI, I would not survive getting beat by very easy.

Essentially the hard AI has perfect recall of everything including where every card is located (provided that that information is Knowable; ie. it doesn't know the order of a shuffled deck of cards).

It is also a trained neural network, so it can intuit combinations of card effects much better than a human can.

The Medium AI is exactly like the Hard AI except that it lacks perfect recall (dev has not detailed exactly how this works, other than it occasionally forgets some of the information in the list of Knowables).

Easy AI hasn't been detailed any further than that, but I suspect that it has its perfect recall neutered even further (it may not have any memory at all).

My advice is to keep playing against very easy AI and try new card combinations. You can also see what cards the AI is buying that you aren't. Also, try using cards that you haven't used before. Every card has a use case, I have seen high ranked players use "bad" cards for niche situations. I've noticed the AI even undervalues some really good cards.
I guess it is because of deck controlling, trashing coppers and estates are usually very important. If you can make your deck clean it wouldn't be any problem to beat easy ai.

Actually, the kingdms where we have good cleanning option, I tend to win those. I lose every game where there is "trash this, gain another +2" type of kingdoms. Or kingdoms where the AI is behind until it gains 3 provinces in the last turn.

It plays the base cards almost perfectly because they're simple. The more expansion cards get mixed in, the more likely you are to find some synergy that it doesn't pick up on. Or it finds the synergy before you do.

Its awareness being better than the player's is always gonna be a huge advantage though.
I agree. There's no option in the campaign that I can see that allows you to take it easy. It's just inaccessible to people who can't play like a computer.

Actually you CAN select difficulty, although it's very hidden. If you click on either the name or the icon of (the medusa mask) you can select any difficulty. I for one actually play the campaigns on easy - and I am still to actually beat an entire campaign - my best score this far is 4 games in. A note to the devs: I for one think that setting the difficulty is something you should be prompted to do just before clicking "play campaign". You can also do this with the daily games as well.

Otherwise when i just play around I find that i have most fun with one easy AI and one medium. Mostly I lose but i do occasionally win (maybe about 20-25% of those games?) and the most common winner ist the medium AI - but it happens tha the easy beats both me and the medium. Most games end up quite close between myself and the medium AI, but please note that adding a third player (as I usually do) changes up things quite a lot, since even the AIs are competing against each other - Dominion is a free for all. I do not think that I would fare particular well against the medium on my own. If you like, try playing against two easy AIs, or one easy and one very easy, and then move up as you feel ready - this is what I did.

Yes, indeed, you can change the AI level IN-GAME. It took me someone in the forums to point that to me since it's so unintuitive and hidden. It should be clearer.

Also, yes, that's true that playing against more then one AI makes it slightly easier for you.

But still, I find it insulting to be destroyed like a noobie by an "EASY" AI... To me, they should be named : Easy AI, Hard AI, Harder AI and Hardest AI... :\

Still impressive though how good it is. I've never seen such an efficient AI in a game before. It helps you become better. But, sometimes, I just want to chill out and not sweat every freaking game.

Always gonna be a complaint lol. 99% of board games/ card games have the absolute worst AI's, like virtually just taking random actions each turn, I love how well done this AI is without giving it unfair bonuses

Decent AIs in games are quite rare. We should celebrate when one pops up not complain.
The AI plays quite aggressively when there are "+ Action" and "+ Card" combinations in the game, and it does a good job of playing this combo. E.g. Playing with Fishing Village + Wharf, the AI will aggressively accumulate these cards. To have a chance of beating it, you have to play the same game. Unfortunately, this is a problem with Dominion in general - sometimes there is a combo on the board that you need to play to be competitive.

It's more fun when this type of combo doesn't exist in the board.

It's what makes the game great. Your ability to figure out the best combination to go for, and make it more efficiently the your opponent wins you the game. Of course, the AI not only knows all of that wight away, but is really efficient à optimazing it.
