Death penalty is ridiculous
I died for the first time after 4 hours cuz an archer was somehow able to consistantly hit me threw my block, yay thanks. But I lost 90% of my gear when I died (most of which was crazy rare rolled items so imposible to replace from vendor). Furthermore, you can not replay any quests to get gear back, and even worse, you can't even start a new character to start over cuz your progression is globally shared across all characters???? WHY DO THAT???? Way to ruin the game, now I can't play the game anymore unless I can somehow find my save file and delete it (thou its probably kept on steam so thats probably impossible) so I am stuck with no gear, nothing I can do cuz monsters will obliterate me now with no gear. I will not be retracting my review warrning others of this huge oversite until the devs fix this problem and get ride of that stupid death penalty!!! Yes you can play on easy and not lose your stuff but you don't get ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ from playing on easy. So yeah, game was a huge waste of money

Interesting rant and rage quit (and attempt to hold me hostage with a negative review to change game design) Let me be clear, the death penalty is not changing.

Death is part of the game, expect to die. This is why so much gear drops, to account for this.

While I have yet to implement multiple character slots, there is a way to delete your progression listed in the FAQ you obviously didnt read.

Vendors sell equivalent and often times better gear, so check often, and with the next patch you will have the ability to soulbound items at drudgers keep.

If you dont want the risk, play on easy, there is absolutely no change to the quality of loot that drops, besides the single quest reward. I offered this version of mechanics for folks like you who at first death would leave me a negative review.

Well, sorry to hear that, but that's part of the games fun :) Most of us find it rather ... invigorating, to have to be soooo careful with your character and gear.

You can also store gear in your "stash" which is communal and persistent across all characters, so even if you lose an epic item, you can have another item to fall back on.

Plus, on rare occasions, an item will come with the "soulbound" trait (which will be purchaseable for a hefty fee in an upcoming patch) Any "soulbound" items will survive your death, so sometimes it's worth keeping a slightly lower tier item on you.

All gear you gamble for is Soulbound also. OP, it's part of the game to risk un-Soulbound items to lose if they are in your inventory when you die. Really, you can recover from this quite easily if you care to, and there is a load of drops as you progress in the game. I died a few times, lost some gear, but that is the nature of the game. You WILL find much better gear, I would not fixate on losing something nice when there is much better gear that will drop if you just accept the punishment for dying and move on. It's a major point of the game, and really I have so many Soulbound drops I sell most of them now. You have a stash, you keep your money, and you can play on easy and stash good stuff, or sell it all and keep the gold to gamble for Soulbound items. The penalty for dying is good in my opinion, and there are many ways to mitigate it.
play on permadeath then XD

The Dev altered the game a few days after release because of these complaints, now on easy mode ( most missions will be medium by default, so you will have to change to easy yourself on the mission screen, or hard if you're a masochist ) there will be no item loss on death.
What you probably don't realise is that there isn't actually better loot drops for the harder modes yet, basically the loot each map is random so sometimes you'll get lucky with some great drops, and sometimes you wont.
I've tried it on easy to insane ( with newgame+ when you finish ) and overall there was absolutely no difference for loot with difficult levels. On each level of difficulty you will sometimes get some great pieces, and sometimes not, it's just random, and overall seemed the same.
A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Agreed! As heartbreaking as it can be to lose one or more really nice pieces of kit, it's WAY more fun to dive back in and find something even better! I've cleaned out my stash at least three times already, of things that I "thought I might need" because I kept getting better stuff!

I do appologize for the rant. After sleeping it off, I went back and tried it on easy and found that I got the same gear drops and exp I think (it makes it sound like the mission difficulty dictates the rarity of drops). This should really be explained BEFORE WE DIE thou, not after we die. And thank you everyone for the tips. I did change my review after I tried easy. Additionally I found that you can grind by running a dungeon and not completing the objective, wait for the game to auto save, and exit to main menu, reload, and do the quest again. You keep all gear and exp gained from before the auto save (signified by a square animation in the bottom right corner).

Good point. I will add this notice in the Hub Intro tutorial on death mechanics.

HARDCORE or go home!

Quite honestly, I think you folks are going a great job with the game. I re-installed it and am going to play it thru. Thanks for all the hard work... I also think the price could come up a little bit. Just being honest!! Happy gaming!!

Just go on easy for a while. Soon you will get enough boons and be strong enough that the only thing that can kill you will be some sort of bug. I hate loosing gear on death. Awful idea. So I just went on easy for a while. I have not tried it on the top difficulty - the one once you finish chapter 1 and can redo the storyline till chapter 2 is released - ultimate difficulty??? Not sure. Ultimate or extreme or ????

You will gain xp faster on hard and if you are careful picking only the fast (repeatable) missions they can be done very quickly and easily which gives more boons and just makes it even easier still. I do the assassinate the boss ones in minutes. You can almost run straight to them sometimes depending on the map and how easy the warp point icon is to see on it.

I also suggest bows if you have not tried them. I am not great on the blocking thing and getting right in the enemies face where they can hit you is often very painful. Not sure how ranged magic fares but bows are sweet.
Palandus Nov 19, 2020 @ 8:32pm
To be honest, you only die if you are playing melee. The game is heavily in favor of ranged combat over melee. I got a pair of powerful dual-wield weapons; makes short work of basic melee enemies, but bosses still can easily kill me. But with my powerful bow, even bosses fear me. I suggest playing a ranged player, rather than melee. You'll have fewer frustrations that way.

I just died in a hard mode dungeon, only the second one. I just decided to go back in with easy mode and gather some equipment back together. I found that the mode does not affect the quality of what drop in the dungeon, just the reward that you get when you complete it is not as high.
rubyismycat Nov 21, 2020 @ 9:33am
there are two ways to deal with this issue if it freaks you
1 Do what i do only ever equip soul bound items yes they usually are weaker but they stay with you forever no matter what congrats you can now die every 2 minutes and not care less
2 If you find your on a particularly hard or annoying mission you just want done in my case i hate timed missions in any game then set your difficulty to easy for that mission
i hope this helps you i lost everything absolutely everything first time i died and i wasnt too happy about it lol so i can feel your pain
