Report a translation problem
The complexity doesn't matter, it's all about latency. If your crappy ISP means it takes several hundred milliseconds for communications to go between you and someone else, it doesn't matter whether the information being sent is simple info about a card game, or complex FPS state, it's still going to lag.
Providing a good experience under laggy conditions is extremely difficult. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jb0FOcImdg for an informative deep dive on this. Far far more complexity that is warranted by a free card game.
I play from New Zealand, often with latencies of 200ms, and I'm definitely disadvantaged, but I still have a good time.
