Nice! Thanks for sharing.
As for "wonky" controls. They're necessary to fully control your firearm, the point of the game. Tap to sprint is not the point of the game, and unnecessarily removes full control from the player by throwing them forward when they just wanted to move slowly.
You are playing the *wrong* game.
No it's the fact that if you accidentally press W too fast while trying to carefully situate yourself or get up on a ledge, you can royally screw yourself over. You have to get creative to get around this, or just be extra aware of it. That right there adds a whole other level of intensity. I think of it as being akin to tripping over your own two feet.
But you already know that Tapping W will make you sprint forward, You really don't need to "Get creative" you just need to wait for a split second before tapping it again.
And just like how many times you've shot yourself in the leg, you also don't have the same balance until you practice better.
It's player input, one that's very well taught..
Having sprinting being togglable just subtracts more and more from what the game is trying to be.. a "Sim" game. These troubles ground those issues. and you're taught how sprinting works.
It's just fighting the homogeneous control scheme that games work their entire game around. Shoot, Jump, Sprint, Aim.
Having to be conscious of your movements is player input, and falling off a ledge, is player failure. Understandable failure, but still failure.
