Mouse Yaw With Less Roll
It's asking a lot, I'm sure. But the ONE thing I cannot get accustomed to in this Most-Excellent-Theophilus game is the massive amount of roll baked into the yaw of the mouse steering. Yes, there are keys for yaw with minimal (but not no) roll. If I had 28 fingers maybe that would be feasible.

I have brought this up in the past. One person commented that flat yaw "looks stupid as hell." If you think space flight should look like atmospheric aviation, then yes it does. If you understand that there is no "lift" in a vacuum, then not so much. Also I play almost exclusively in 1st person, so I'm not looking at myself all the time. (And ships don't need wings either, but wings do look purdy.)

And I do understand the 6DOF issue that some roll "happens." But if you use the Yaw keys you can see just how much roll there is with the mouse in comparison. (I cannot comment on how other means of control operate.)

I think this is a consequence of rotation on 3 axis. I dabble a lot in Godot, and made some tests about rigid body rotations to simulate spaceships in space-drift flight. There's an issue called gymbal lock, that messes up the rotations when you do it in more than 2 axis. The correct way to solve this is using quaternions, and that's what I did. Guess what? There's always that nasty effect of roll when you apply pitch and turn at the same time. It can be compensated by adding reverse roll to the equation, but it's an issue can can't be nullified.
I think there's always the option of using 3 3dnodes as separate rotation axis, make them children of each other, and place the ship object as a child of them. But I avoid it, since my purpose was testing quaternion rotations.

The game is an arcade looter/shooter, not a space simulation. As such the aesthetics fit perfectly with the game's design. It would be counter to the game's design to provide this even if it didn't look stupid.

Well you got me there. I can't argue with that.
