Or, if you don't mind 2D, build your own in Cosmoteer

The only thing is that Rebel Galaxy is on 2D plane and not in 3D. A similar game to this is also SPAZ 2 which also on 2D plane but it has more of the 2D map views that go into 3D graphics only during battles.

There was Dreadnought in the past.
The beta was impressive and single player was promised. However things got worse and worse. While the big ships had great feeling and you could feel the power of the big ships, however it was MP only game, the balance was out of the window, they introduced tiers which was basically playing the same ship but with worse stats(before tiers there were just multiple classes, something like in Team Fortress 2), of course matchmaking sucked with that because tiers had a significant difference in stats. And single player was abadoned before release and never happened. It's F2P on Steam however it's on life support currently(very few players).
Still, it had fine capital ships to fight against, the story was gritty and rude, very much "cowboys in space".
I reached the end of the game, and waited for a mod-kit to be released. Sadly, Travis Baldree left because of toxic community reactions, and went into the more peaceful and profitable job of audio-books. He had a nice voice, indeed.
It was a game for those who felt nostalgic about Wing Commander Privateer and I felt like it was specifically made to be that..
Even today the original Rebel Galaxy has many more currently playing players than RG:O
Additionaly RG:O was an one of the first Epic exclusives(basically Epic Games pays publishers not to release their games on any other store) and Travis on the subreddit wrote it was DDG's(Double Damage Games - creators of RG:O) "long term plan" to get more money because Steam people will "buy the game anyway" after exclusivity ends(fyi. I did not buy RG:O). He was wrong. A great way to throw big part of the loyal fanbase and potential buyers out of the window. DDG thought that PC players won't complain about bringing console-like exclusivities to PC platform. I can't see how they couldn't foresee the consequences. Even if it may seem sad, this and many other reactions to other Epic exclusivite games saved PC platform from huge influx of exclusivities. Same with PC community reaction to NFTs.
Back to the topic. There's really not many games about flying big capital ships without the game being a strategy game or something complex. I wish Dreadnought the game had at least that single player campaign because the core of the game was really promising to be a game like that.
anddd it's on sale for like $6.99 thanks to the current steam sale and you have sold me on a game I somehow missed. Thanks!
You mean the scam game that gives you what they advertise? yea totally a scam.
what about what they dont advertise like 10 year old bugs?
