review bombing?
Thought I'd check in and see if Everspace 2 is any closer to a full release (I refuse to buy EA games these days) and was really surprised by the recent reviews being so much lower than overall reviews.

Did something happen to cause so many negative reviews to flood in? I'm hoping it's nothing more than a bunch of trolls and the game hasn't made a turn for the worse.

A lot of negative reviews are about the delay of the Russian localization. Some are about the gameplay being repetitive or boring. Level scaling does seem to pop up as a recurring issue too.

Generally speaking the updates seem to be well received, the recent negative reviews seem to be more about things that are still in the roadmap, except for level scaling.

Yeah its just folks upset over the devs choosing not to support the russian localization till the war is over, game is fine (if a little pricey for a EA game) and easily enjoyable, unless you only speak russian.

For me, it feels really strange, because, I'm Portuguese, and when I was a kid, in my Country, video-games weren't accessible in my language. I had to "obtain" most of them through black market, and in English. So I would play with an English/Portuguese dictionary at the side.
In no time I picked up the pace and got used to English. It may be a hard language to perfect (all of them are), but it's one of the easiest languages to learn.
I consider English a true Universal Language candidate.
Even movies and games that are dubbed in Portuguese, I always prefer the original version with English subtitles, be it Japanese, German or whatever.
So seeing all the Rus whining about not having the game in their language...
Clearly I'm from the wrong planet...

what devs are doing does not benefit ukrainian people in any way. they just engage in american imported virtue signalling culture

I'm pretty sure it's not THAT which is making the Russian Everspace fans mad. If there had never been a promise to make a Russian version of the game, surely they would have nothing to get mad about, right?

At the end of the day, I respect Rockfish's decision, but also Russian gamers' right to complain through negative reviews. They're basically "voting with their wallets", something I've heard many western capitalist-loving types support, so...

Don't be so hard on yourself, Portugal is not THAT weird... hehe :dos2skull:

It's one thing to vote with your wallet.

It's another to publicly sabotage early-access public presentation by hyperbolically falsifying developer statements.

Roubles are worth as much as dirt and Russian prices reflects this fact. So go ahead and vote with your wallet, it won't matter in the slightest.

I'm pretty sure you are correct, what the Russians are really upset about is that Rockfish has come out publicly against the war. The fact that they are witholding the Russian translation is just a convenient reason to complain.

Maybe then you can explain how removing russian translation helps ukraine in a war effort?

Well I don't want to speak for Rockfish, but I don't think they did it to help Ukraine per se, it's more symbolic that they oppose the war. Most countries are imposing sanctions, in their own way Rockfish is imposing their own sanction. Lots of companies have done similar things to show their disapproval of the war.

some games company has no agency to impose any sanction, its just more virtue signalling

it's not about helping, it's about treating russians the way they deserve - with a middle finger ;)

therefore rockfish "publicly coming out against the war" is only about xenophobia and "not about helping". anglos would never bend that far backwards to materially help the people of a country at war, instead preferring platitudes and virtue signalling
