I bought the game. Will my saves be deleted if I uninstall the demo now?
I'm kinda worried about that, since the save files were created by the demo, and then I continued playing on the full game.

Don't uninstall the Demo, just install the game.

If you start playing the Full release your Demo saves should work just fine.

After you start playing the full release, you can safely delete the Demo.

They share the same Save file folder.

It's not a bad idea to back up your save folder to another location on your hard drive regardless. You can find it below. Once you do that even if it deletes your save folder which it shouldn't you can recover from your backup.

C:\Users\*user*\AppData\Local\ES2\Saved\SaveGames

Is it possible to use my Steam Demo save file for my Gamepass full release? I played the demo for nearly 3 hours and I just discovered that it is available on the game pass..

Afaik no user found a solution to bring Steam saves to Game Pass, yet.

Ah okay thats a bummer. I thought because it is possible to copy the savegame files from Gamepass to Steam, it surely would be possible the other way around. Thank you for your answer

I wouldn't let that stop you from trying. The 2 different versions use different ways of storing the save game files, but one thing is for certain, the actual save file itself is completely compatible with either version. It's only the "image" file that is different for both versions. With that knowledge it should be possible to swap just the actual save file from 1 system to the other as that works going from Gamepass to Steam so yes in theory it should also work from Steam to Gamepass. The only thing left to do is figure out a way for the Gamepass version to actually look for that file to load. If it finds it, it should be able to load it.

I'm not at home today to give this a try, but I see no reason that it shouldn't be possible. The key will be figuring out how to trick the system into finding the save file to load. Maybe it's tricky but it should be possible. I'll see if I can work on it tonight and see what I can come up with or feel free to try it yourself. Once you know the 2 directories to mess around with it should be pretty easy to try some things, but you should back up both save folders before you start messing around so that if you get to a point it's unrecoverable just delete and restore the previous save folder and you should be good to go.

Here's some information from going from Gamepass to Steam. With this information you should be able to figure out a way to reverse the process.

Thanks for your answer! This is the exact thread I used to try the reverse copy from Steam to Gamepass but sadly it didn't work for me. The thing is, that there are 5 different game save folders in my game pass folder and I don't exactly know which one to replace. I've tried every single folder, copied the steam save file into it, changed the name with the gamepass file but it didn't work. The game didn't detect the save files.

Yeah, I think you are right. I'm not sure what Gamepass is doing with those files because I have a ton of folders with all different kinds of files in it on Gamepass. Have no idea which one is for what. So it would seem that Gamepass has effectively prevented us from messing around with our game files. I'm sure that's some kind of tamper resistance thing for Microsoft. I think perhaps that Microsoft keeps a local copy of your save games on their server and then does some shenanigans on your PC. It then probably validates when you run the game somehow. If you try to mess with them, I think it figures that out and restores the files from the server instead. Something along those lines because when I tried it I think I even lost the file that I saved and it restored a previous version from Gamepass. Pretty tricky Microsoft.

Saves don't delete, but it's advised to reinstall because there might be compatibility issues between the old and new versions. You may experience more bugs.

Thanks again für your answer. I really hoped you'd find a way to do it but it's alright. I will just start from the beginning.

Thank you for your help and have a good one :)
