Defending Maddocks ship before jumping completely impossible
I played the whole game on normal so far and it was ok. After installing the scrambler in Maddocks ship i have to defend him. Absolutely impossible, even if I go back and set game to the easiest setting. Is there a trick?

There's a bug that makes it harder if you set the difficulty to easy because his ship gets fewer hitpoints. Set the game difficulty back to normal and try again. If you can't complete it on normal then you can't complete it on easy. Best bet at that point would be to go get a couple more levels and come back and try again.
Ugh.... I had to use a trainer to add 1 hit kill which allowed me to just eek by on that mission. Even still I had to use EMP to stun lock enemy ships so they wouldn't get any shots off on Maddocks and it still took like a dozen tries. :steamthumbsdown:

The Developer is aware and because a workaround exists for everyone who asks or uses the Searchbar in the Forum, this Bug is not considered to be critical at this point. A Fix will come with an Update.
For everyone else, who might has this issue and finds this Thread:
- the easier the game difficulty, the harder this specific Mission. Increase difficulty.
- It is an Escort/Crowd Control Type of Mission. You dont have to wipe out all Enemies, just keep them away from the unfriendly Man and his Tin Can
- use Weaponry and Abilities that affect multiple Target at once. Flak, Mines, EMP, your ULT-ability .... everything that pulls the aggro to you. The Enemies normally stay in close formation, especially if they freshly jump into the System
- if its still not enough, pause the Story mission and increase your Level first, maybe buy a better Ship if you want

This is your problem most likely. Level 13 for this mission I think is pretty low. The campaign mission levels are marked too low in my humble opinion. If you are trying to do them at the level indicated on them, you might very well struggle with them. I've actually brought this up with Rockfish before and their response was that they didn't want to force players to do the side missions before doing the campaign missions but the problem with that is your ship is going to be underpowered for the campaign missions that way. This is probably the reason that so many people complain about a difficulty spike around level 10 or so. They are trying to do the campaign missions at the level indicated which can be done, but only by experienced pilots and will still be a challenge at that point.

This is yet another problem with statically generated rather than dynamically generated enemies which was discussed at length in Early Access and ended up with a dramatic change just before release 1.0. Read more about it in the link below.

There is always the Gamer-Spectrum. Some concentrate solely on the Story and get underleveled. Many do Story and a bit Side Stuff, staying at a comfortable Level.
.... and then you have the Players who strip every Area for Ressources, Secrets and EXP, becoming totally overleveled.
The Story-Okkar in this Mission are already weakened down compared to their patroling Colleagues. So even if youre underleveled, you should be able to do the Mission difficulty-wise. Problem is rather the amount of Targets. It keeps you busy and its more likely that some focus on their programmed Target, instead of fighting you.
