Sell or dismantle gear?
I noticed early game that gear sells for very little, like less than 500 creds.
Does that mean I should be scrapping instead? For BPs I just scrap, but what about those where I've already gotten the BPs?

Sell Opulence set as they are significantly more valuable than normal gears. Otherwise I would recommend dismantle them unless you direly need more money, since you might need a lot of materials for crafting gears and/or re-rolling stats in later game.

Opulence is some kind of prefix/affix thing?
And I figured, is there any time where you need the money? And also whether late game gear actually becomes profitable to sell? Even if it is, what do I need to buy anyway? Putting aside buying new ships of course since those are one time deals.

I tend to split what I sell or scrap. Scrapping is good early on, but once you've got a good amount of spare resources, you can focus on selling. The selling price of things never gets that high, but you will get tons of items as you play.

Money is mainly useful for purchasing ships, with the highest tier ships costing 850k-900k credits. You're going to want those in the endgame as they offer very good stats, and the latest update allows them to equip an additional legendary piece of equipment.

You'll also spend a lot of credits getting all of the companion perks.

You will encounter Set pieces later in the game. They can be easily seen in gear description.

Yes, they are. It depends on your need whether you want to sell or dismantle.

Ships with higher Tiers will be significantly more expensive, you may want to earn money for them to make your game easier.
In earlier game, you might occasionally find something good in shops such as gears with higher levels or materials for crafting.
Apart from these, you also need money to invest in Character Perks. They are expensive enough to keep you busy in early-middle game.

I tend to dismantle everything I'm not going to use because I can make credits MUCH MUCH faster by doing trade runs if I need money for a new ship or something. But if you absolutely hate the idea of running some trade, once you get a fair stock of the grey and green mats you can sell all those and just dismantle blues and reds. OR even only dismantle reds if you end up with more rare mats than you need I guess.

This. Credits are not an issue mid game onwards and honestly I think crafting is far more valuable early on than credits. Remember that crafting is not simply gear, it's upgrades to existing items, components required for perks, catalysts and consumables. Crafting is really not optional, you're gonna need a lot of crafting materials. Yes there will come a point where you don't need any more crafting materials, but by that time trade runs are far more lucrative than selling gear.

Yeah, I noticed the game showers me with credits. Trade runs are profitable, but weird so far, I do the Union Ceto run but Ceto rarely restocks it seems. Doesn't matter, I'm just waiting for the shipyards to give me a T3 bomber atm, the grind to T3+ shouldn't take too long then it's just waiting until I unlock T4s which by then I hope trade runs would be more stable.
