Long long time ago, i played a space ship game called "Freelancer".
did any one also had to play this game?
does Everspace 2 is similar with "Freelance"?

HEY :) ya true a long time ago ..... and i think its not 100% the same but its near freelancer. really funny the simulation and shooter sametime i like that

It does take inspiration from Freelancer and has similarities to it, but the focus is to make the game its own thing rather than a freelancer 2.0. If you like freelancer, you’ll probably like ES2.

i was very happy to play Freelance with my friends. Trading and do the mission together, and loss all items while killed by space pirate.... it was a happy moment.....

Maybe i should try ES2 later :)

If you want to scratch that Freelancer itch Rebel Galaxy Outlaw is the closest it's going to get at the moment.

Actually, you can get Freelancer..........for FREE, it is now in the public domain via Microsoft's (Unbelievable) generosity.

Google up "FREELANCER DISCOVERY MOD" a website has the link to the ISO file. it also has the mod which adds many many new ships and new systems. (Get help if you don't know what an ISO file is or how to burn one and use it, Knowledge is aquireable(sp).)

Freelancer can ALSO be played with LIVE PEOPLE via that mod. (I don't as I prefer the Singleplayer aspect).

The very cool thing about FREELANCER is since it was done in DX9 it Scales up with new machinces and looks GREAT. (in my opionion.).

With regards to THIS game however; I (suspect) that a 3rd version if it manifests itself will be a much closer homage to Freelancer than this (puzzle heavy) linear (but Pretty) game.

Kind regards to all who share my world views,

Hey Trent. Personally i was aware of Discovery and have played it quite a bit both in SP and MP. But that's the thing, i played Freelancer to exhaustion. I really wanted a version brought in the present with cool graphics and improved gameplay. And that's where RGO fits in. It manages to be very familiar without feeling like a direct clone. Besides, the Firefly/Serenity asetethics is a dream come true as not many space games go for the scrappy space cowboy theme these days. Games like Elite, X or Star Citizen keep everything is clean, pristine, shiny and precise.

There's a simple and BIG difference between RGO and ES2 - the flight model.
In RGO, you have forward/backward thrust and boost.
In ES2, you have that AND directional thrusters.
Gameplay becomes very different because of that.
In RGO they even had to create an "auto-follow" button, because it was that hard to dogfight and pursuit an enemy around.
RGO style is definitely more retro. Even more than Freelancer. RGO goes more on the style of wing commander privateer. Combat is fun, the weapons and explosion effects are gorgeous.
It was made with Ogre 3d engine, so it's more permissive and playable on low end pcs.
ES2 pushes all to the max, and is better played on modern machines.
I have both games, and love them both.
In what regards RGO though, Travis put there a hell of a ship painter mode, and they are going to release a modkit. And Gentlemen, Mods, are known to keep games alive for a lot more time, and add more value to it.

You have just describe "Marriage" yes, it would be "nice" to have some "strange" but as long as the "lifepartner" is OK, you need to be happy with it.

Just like with "Jagged Alliance 2", Freelancer (Discovery Mod) has (as of yet), no equal not in terms of game play.

Elite (lied about singleplayer, they are Dead to me), X2/3/4, just never gives me the singleperson open sandbox vibe, Star Citizen (to whom I threw away $X,XXX.XX) and now might never see my (Promised Singleplayer "Slice of the Verse" to SELF HOST), leaves me with the "dated graphics" but STELLAR Gameplay which is Freelancer (Discovery Modded).

I again, state it is my hope the Devs (here) are pondering a ES3 game and what it could be like.

Kind regards to all who share my world views,

Unreal Engine is not good for Open World games. If ES3 ever tries to go that route, they will need another 3d engine.

While Everspace 2 definitely is looking to become a great game, of you're looking for a Freelancer fix, take a look at Rebel Galaxy Outlaw. That game basically is Freelancer, bit with a space western atmosphere and a phenomenal soundtrack.

Starpoint Gemini 2 and Warlords are similar to Freelancer, but the Universe isn't as alive.
3 got terrible reviews, so...

i still think freelancer is the benchmark for space sims ;-) good call, this does feel very similar to freelancer, however i do not like the enemy level match system, should have some systems for levels 1-5, fighting level 10 drones near my home base makes me nervous lol
doobydodap Aug 25, 2021 @ 3:17pm
I really like this game, but it's nothing like it or that reminds the Freelancer can say they have inspirations (possibly well hidden in a place I've never found), and an excellent game if you love puzzles, worth every penny Rockfish isn't disappoint. If you want something like Freelancer wait for Underspace.
RGO unfortunately is impossible to play on keyboard and mouse and main programmer Travis left the company so modkit never left.
