How's the game with controllers/HOTAS?
I realize the first Everspace was developed for mouse gameplay and I commend the devs for doing it well, but it meant that the game was balanced for mouse gameplay and playing it with a stick felt strange and out of place. Is it the same for Everspace 2? I prefer to play any flight games with a controller at the minimum, stick preferred.

Hey there, HOTAS pilots!

We understand that using your dedicated flight gear in any space combat game is paramount to you. However, as most of you already know, the EVERSPACE franchise is not your typical space flight sim, but a fast-paced arcade spaceship shooter, primarily designed to be best-played with keyboard+mouse.

Right now HOTAS pilots make less than 5% of the EVERSPACE 2 roster, but we've put a lot of effort into supporting and testing Logitech (Saitek) and Thrustmaster joysticks in-house. We've received feedback from a few HOTAS pilots about custom layouts not working as intended or their hardware not being recognized (mostly due to slightly different joystick model names or other input peripherals interfering).

As said in the linked news update above, we're really eager to get this right as long as joystick pilots provide constructive feedback we can work with. As you can see in this thread, we’ve already made several adjustments and improvements based on the HOTAS community feedback, and we’re happy to further improve the experience through reasonable technical effort. Bear in mind that HOTAS support is a courtesy feature to please hardcore space sims even if that’s not the kind of game we’re making.

So, any HOTAS user being frustrated about things not working as expected, please make sure to read and follow the instructions in this pinned thread, first. If things are still borked for you, share your feedback with a respectful tone; it keeps us motivated to look into your individual issue and triage for future updates!

To manage expectations, while we might increase HOTAS aim-assist even higher than for gamepad when testing difficulty settings and accessibility options closer to full release, there are no plans to make dedicated game design/balancing changes for HOTAS pilots to compensate for significantly increased difficulty when piloting with joysticks. We also don’t plan to support HOTAM because we would probably have to drop UE4’s player input auto-detection and implement a custom solution.

Well, as the dev said, game is easier with Kb and mouse, but for me, it works pretty fine with a hotas, but some long in-game imput setting must be done before, if you want to fully enjoy the game.

Has anyone tried VKB MCG Pro + GFIII with it by any chance?

HOTAS
Is there HOTAS support in game or just mouse and KB?

Thanks

Yes, but I think you have to do the binding yourself in the “joystick” controls
RbdPanda Jan 19, 2021 @ 9:49am
Yes, HOTAS support but it still needs a little work. It is definitely usable though even in it's current state

Hopefully HOSAS is working well enough as well. I'd imagine it is but I'll find out soon.

Others probably should answer this, but as you have not yet received an answer, here is the dev reply: I think that we improved the HOTAS experience a lot and the game is in general a lot easier and forgiving and a bit less frantic compared to Everspace 1. I'd say you'd still have an advantage playing with mouse+kb because it allows for the most precise aiming, but a good amount of the dev team actually prefer playing with a controller.
Thanks for the reply! Appreciate the devs answering questions in the forums :)

On Gladiator NXT (Kosmosima Premium) the controls work fine. The only thing is that you have to reassign the buttons in NJoy32 to be pressed and held by default in Everspace 2.
P.S.: the settings are not saved, after restarting Everspace 2 you will have to reassign the axes, so it is better to configure the buttons through NJoy32 and assign them to the keyboard.

Saitek X45 stick and throttle support?
I just dug out my old X45 to see if I could get it to work with my PS4. No go...(sigh) Before I go and sell them off though, will they work with the steam version of this game?

Hi jayv2251,

I'm a bit confused. Everspace 2 is not available on the PS4. And it's new (at least) to me that HOTAS work with the PS4 in any shape or form, too.

For Everspace 2's Early Access on Steam (generally, the PC version) we offer official presets for:

Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS X
Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS One
Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS 4
Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog
Thrustmaster T16000M (Single)
Thrustmaster T16000M (Dual Config)
Logitech Extreme 3D Pro
Logitech/Saitek X56
Logitech/Saitek X52 Professional
Logitech/Saitek X52 (by virtue of the X52 Pro support)

You might get your Saitek X45 to work with the PC version but will most likely have to configure it manually. Please check it out.

Controller support
As of right now, I've only used keyboard and mouse and it's fine. Was wondering for those of you who have used KB/M and controller, which one do you prefer more?
Kage Goomba Mar 8, 2021 @ 11:44am
Controller (XB1) - but I'll admit the KB/M'ers may have an edge in efficiency. Go with whatever you feel your comfortable with.

There's also HOTAS as well.

Control with Controller is fantastic. I refuse to play games without full controller support and hate it when a game doesn't have it but was not disappointed with it's support in this game or their last one.
