Is there a best ship for racing?

I've tried racing in a Sentinel and Gunship, both with very poor results. Is there a particular ship that is best suited for racing?

Any of the small ships are pretty simple. I did all the races in Vanguard/Stinger and hit platinum usually the second try once I knew the track.

Striker is likely the best. Good speed and handling, and its expertise is increasing boost speed.

Striker actually is the ship whose Expertise improves Boost speed. Another good ship for races.

At higher levels/rarities it is possible for a Cargo hold to spawn with increased movement speed. It's an extra 10-20% IIRC. That's another way to help your times.

If you're in a Gunship or similar heavy you're likely looking at Bronze times for most races, Silver if you're lucky on a few.

I haven't employed any mainframe expansions yet so I think getting a Striker and increasing its expertise will be a good test of their worth.

Um... you can swap those around freely, even while flying. There's zero reason to hold back on them.

Speed bonuses are 13% for cargo, 20% for speed booster.

Correction Starforge lv 30 are 21% & 14%.
