Why is this game not being properly marketed?
There is not even a release banner on the main steam page which most games that leave early access have.

This game is awesome and deserves to be known and to do financially well.
Right now I feel like only people who ever played everspace 1 and still care know about this.

According to steam stats, this game sold around 5 times less than EverSpace 1.

Right there with you. Advertise the hell out of this Rockfish!

This game deserves to have its name up there with the space shooters of old.

Well it just came out so give it a chance, sometimes sales start off slow and pickup later. And I'd wager this is a case where the overwhelming majority of budget for the game went into the game, and it doesn't seem they have that much left for advertisements. That said if you really want them to be successful the best things you can do for the game:

1) Tell your friends
2) Leave a review
3) Msg/leave comments of big review channels asking for the game to be covered

#3 is probably the best thing you can do, this game is awesome and does deserve more players to enjoy it, and I think if 1 or 2 big channels covered it sales would follow.

It's getting ads on Youtube and other plateforms. the marketing campain started, instead of being hyped up before full release they decided to adverstise the full product.

Well, game does not have that much to advertise, that is why IMHO; whatched some videos, read some articles... nada. I can do much much... muuuch more with some other -space- games.

This game needs a looot of additional mechanics, functions and content to be advertisable (unless its %75 off) IMHO because its adversaries are way more cheaper and powerful compared to this greedy little game.

Can you tell us what these other, way better and much cheaper games are, as I've been playing since launch and have to say I love it.

Care to name or recommend some of those games? Because I certainly have an itch for games like Everspace, especially if it offers more features/mechanics/bigger (open?) world, customization and so on...

there's some 2D indie games that touch on similiar aspects
there's the simulation genre (aka X4 and co.)
but in terms of general polish, detail, production care and design you will be hard pressed to find a concurrent competitor
i shudder to think of some of other "bigger" Freelancer clones like what they tried with the last Star Point Gemini game and most of the other tries on the formula were similiar disasters.
There's this story heavy action-dog-fighter where you play the female pilot and her sentient ship (and get space magic)...can't remember the name, but it was pretty good (but in no way an open-game, but very story-centered).

so i got no clue what magical games HolyCrab got hidden away, but apart from simulations and the more mmoish approach (ED and co.) the genre is in dire need of help the moment you look past the low budget, very tiny dev team, indie games.

That is a GOOD question!!

The current peak player numbers are higher than in Everspace 1. So I can imagine it will outsell Everspace 1 in the end. Its still in its main sales window.

---

The game is not a sim, not a build sandbox, not a virtual economy, and not an empire simulator.

Instead the devs focused heavily on fast-paced combat, loot-hunt, nice visuals and easy to learn controls.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1111930/Underspace/ looks awesome

And of course Starsector (not on Steam) is a long standing classic

I want to... but not here; I'm not here to advertise other games.

Idk man, been gaming a long time, I have a lot of time on my hands to look for new games, I been a fan of freelancer for the past 20 years and I've been looking for something that scratches that itch, and nothing came as close as this does. Some mechanics are annoying, but there's annoying mechanics in just about every game. You could also make the argument that every game needs additional mechanics.

Randomly bought it on a whim with very little expectations because very few space games have managed to capture that space action-RPG feel Freelancer had and I wanted to see if this did. This game is perfectly advertisable, definitely complete, totally playable, absolutely a blast to play, and worth every penny even at 50$.

I mean, you haven't even played it lol. It's not because you can do more in a game that it's better, anyways, what a weird metric to judge games on. I can do more in Second Life than in everything I've ever played, does that mean Second Life is better than everything I ever played ? I can barely do anything on among us, and it's been one of the most successful games of the past decade. ;o

I think the game is actually doing pretty well since release. Player count went up 18 folds, Steam pushed this game pretty hard on me too, so I assume many other players too. Game is marketing itself pretty well organically I guess ? Additional, good marketing could help for sure, buuut myself, I distrust gaming marketing and am sure am not the only one. Mostly rely on recommendations to buy my games. Maybe Rockfish can reinvest that marketing budget into more content that will make more players tell their friends to buy the game too. ;o

Being on Gamepass from the start sucks away big chunk of potential buyers imho. You can get month of Gamepass for a buck vs paying fairly steep price on steam. Double edged sword that GP deal i reckon :conwayshrug:

Game is still doing better than most AA games like this just by steam metrics, completely ignoring gamepass metrics, and need to assume that Rockfish gets some profit out of their game being on gamepass too, otherwise they wouldn't put it there. Also need to consider that most people who play this on gamepass probably wouldn't have bought it on steam without gamepass anyways, and this is a market they are capturing they wouldn't otherwise, even if it's less lucrative than people who do buy it on steam on an individual customer basis.

These things are a lot more complicated than "it's cheaper to play the game on gamepass therefore not many people will buy it on steam". To get back to marketing, gamepass is probably the best way to market a game ever.

Also, a lot of people are viciously repulsed by gamepass, I absolutely hate that abomination and how it's a gimmick to lock me into windows and some of its software.
