The overseer has segments of plating attached which will pulsate orange. Destroy all of these. Lower-damage and precise weapons can help if you're accidentally killing the overseers.

Some overseers have them grey, They may be hard to locate.
The best tricks:
1- use a precise weapon, like the laser beam or auto-cannon. Don't shoot to much, or you'll destroy the overseer before all plates are done. Locate the plate, fire, and get away.
2- use the emp to freeze the overseer, energized boost to run away when needed.
3- after using the emp, enter photo mode, and move the camera around your enemy to locate the plates without the real time pressure.
4- don't get greedy. EMP, photo mode, locate plates, shoot the plates, and run away to recover emp.

they spawn randomly, i believe they start spawning when your around level 7-8
high risk areas might be a good bet to find them aswell
theyre beefed up versions of ravagers essentially

it's honestly hard to do in Ceto before you leave. even if you are very careful they just don't have enough hull HP, so you end up killing them before the final plate breaks off. Much easier to do after they are level 10+

yea I did it during "gathering dust" 11lvl side quest, plenty of them spawn on each quest map. You start it on Union Bridge shop

Just did it, level 9 in ceto, beam laser and EMP helped a lot.

Not sure if corrosive missile will dmg the plates for you. Could give it a try. I need to get this done myself, but using the vindicator its kind of hard to do...

corrosive missiles do not help, you need to do direct damage to each plate

Managed it at lvl 7 with EMP and a Coil Gun. Wasn't quite as finnicky as it sounded, but I'm on Hard so maybe it had more health/armor than usual.

I used EMP missiles, an EMP device and a rail gun. Easy money. Just click on the plates with the railgun, don't charge it.

any tip how to find them? doing missions in union since an hour and no spawn so far.
are they a guaranteed spawn somewhere?

They often appear as the boss in "Unknown Signals" where you have to destroy a base. You should also be able to find them just cruising between spots in both Ceto and Union. They will definitely show up in Risky Missions, but that's a more stressful situation due to spawns.
