HOTAS worth it?
Has anyone used this game with a HOTAS? It is worth doing? Any tips to get it working great?

Thanks!

Nope. It's just not that type of game.

Not really. The controls are not that complex. Although having a further throw on your joystick than a little analog stick might give you better control.

I tried it out. It works pretty well, it's totally playable. That being said, M+K are still king and you are going to get the most precision out of it.

HOTAS is awesome in this game, disregard the naysayers. With an expensive custom gimbal hall sensor stick, throttle and pedals you will easily have superior control over your spacecraft than mousers.

I've been playing with the Saitek X55 joystick and throttle. It's OK, I like the immersion it gives but the aiming accuracy isn't great. I know joysticks tend to have less accuracy than mice, but my X55 usually has better than this, it just seems a bit clunky in this particular game.
I'll keep mucking around with the sensitivities etc.

Eh, it gets crapped on a lot by the community for some reason, but there are people who have it working and running quite well for them.

Personally I recommend HOSAM setup, you get the fun and immersion of flying with a stick and mouse precision for combat.

I have been enjoying it on my Virpil HOTAS so far.

Thanks for the idea. Is that where I fly with the joystick and aim weapons with the mouse?

Nice, sounds good. I'll give it a go. Do you have to choose the Joystick and Mouse override thing in setting?

EDIT: And how do you handle the ship's throttle? Use the keyboard?

The game is extremely arcadey, there's no reason to use a HOTAS. The game has nothing going for it in the immersion department, you fly in LSD pastel shaded space and dog fight with space-age weapons that have less range than cannons invented during the age of sail.

Well, I'm having fun anyway. :) I think the short range thing is good, because (while not realistic in space combat) it gets you up close to the enemy ships, giving you a feeling of fighting like in Star Wars.
One of my criticisms of Star Citizen is, the space combat doesn't feel like dog fighting (which again, I know isn't realistic but it's more importantly, FUN).
