Should i play this on steam or gamepass?
Is there anything different that would lead me to play it on one or the other?

Correct it does... however.

Further clarity for Gamepass!
If you have the game installed, it should update automatically at launch to an almost-full release build (this is to circumvent certification delays, so you can play as soon as possible). Our best guess ETA would be around a week when the true 1.0 goes live on Gamepass. Playing this build won't miss anything between saves, so you can freely start without the need to restart again.

Thank you for the speedy answer!

What does "to an almost-full release build" mean?

Essentially there's a slight difference as we had to push it early to get it through Microsoft certification. You won't miss anything from the content, but we're constantly refining and polishing.

It means that a new version will be made available on game-pass in under an hour. It won't be the official release build however it will be a version that is save compatible with the release build which means that you will be able to download the new version and play and when the full release 1.0 version releases on Gamepass you just have to update to that version and continue to play, you won't have to worry about starting over.

no offense, but that doesnt help, lol.
what actually is the slight difference?

The slight difference (correct me if I'm wrong devs) is that the Game Pass build will be a few days older than the final 1.0 release.

It is the full game, but it had to be released, early, to be passed by Microsoft certification, early, for them to hit 6pm launch today.

The devs continued working on the code, and maybe added a line here, or a line there. Fixed a bug from the to-do list. And then that became v1.0.

Does that make sense?

As said above, as soon as 1.0 clears Microsoft certification, it'll go live - the saves we make will work just fine, when v1.0 goes live. We're playing with v1.0 release candidate, if you like.

For the last few weeks we've been in polishing & refining phase, which is generally what happens very close to launch. All content is in so you'll see very little difference.

The difference is certification from Microsoft essentially. Microsoft requires that any new releases of software go through it's very stringent certification process which can take a week or more. My guess would be that Rockfish already gave Microsoft a version of the game that has been through the certification process to be ready for download. It's not the actual same version that is being released on Steam because Steam doesn't require the same certification process so they are providing Steam the most up to date version they have. That won't be available to play on Gamepass until it passes the certification process, but for all intents and purposes it will be release 1.0 compliant if that makes any sense.

All you really need to know is that you'll be able to play on Gamepass at release. The differences between that version and the version on Steam will be so minor you won't be able to tell the difference and as soon as the certification process is completed the game will automatically be updated and you'll be on the same version that Steam will be using.

Mine isn't, and I manually tried to make it update too.
