Should have been a perfect game for a 6DOF device like the spacemouse...
So far only "Overload" did a good job of implementing the spacemouse.
Not true. Most higher end HOTAS have a microstick on them which is a mini joystick and you can bind the strafe functions to this. Works perfect.
So im just asking is it worth it to go to shop tommorrow to get game + hotas or just the game and play on xbox gamepad?
Its a awesome budget stick loved mine but VKB's Gladiator NXT EVO takes it to the next level absolutely adore mine
Don't get the T16000 it doesn't have enough buttons and its spring back is terrible + alot of people report theirs dying a early death. For me vkbs Gladiator is like a mixture of a T16000's stick and Logitechs many buttons with even more and better placed buttons and hats.

But the stick does strafing on X/Y/Z axis plus rolls, however one of those axis ends up on digital. If you could add pedals for the rolls, it would be perfect. I briefly considered having strafe up/down bound to mouse left and right, leaving firing to the stick trigger. In the end my muscle memory for mouse button firing won out...
Even so, while the HOSAM setup needs a bit of tweaking to be comfortable, it seems to be the best performing config. This is much like the older 6DOF FPS games (Descent, Overload, etc), but even more so because of the gimballed targeting. If you don't have mouse involved, the game forces weapons to be fire straight forward so it can make rapid target acquisition much more challenging than it should be.
In Everspace 1 I didn't have mouse aim separate from pitch and yaw, I just used both bindings. So right-hand stick had pitch and yaw, and the mouse had pitch and yaw. Then I would use the stick for exploration and flight (and in Everspace 2 all of the puzzlework, I hope), and switch to mouse when combat starts. That way I could get what I enjoy, which is flying with a joystick and benefiting from its return to center mechanic and analogue feel, while at the same time not compromising on combat performance.
