How to grab / toss enemy mines

Hard to search for when mining ore and self-dropped mines exist.
In short, sometimes i need to rescue a ship surrounded by hostile mines.
Mr Clone has even said that we need to grab them rather than just shoot em.
I keep them centered in my crosshairs, and slowly advance. At a certain proximity they beep and immediately blow up.
What am I doing wrong?

When it starts beeping, there should be a prompt to pick it up. If you succeed, the mine becomes friendly.

If you are close enough. Approach carefully, but not too carefully.

You need to approach the mine extremely slowly. once you're close enough a prompt flashes up to grab the mine, for me it's the F key. you only have a very brief moment to do it before the mine explodes.

It takes some practice, but it's about being careful and very very fast to push the F key.

Me personally it's 2 things, as you get close the crosshair fills and the sound pitch, at that point you press F once, the mine has now become green, press F a 2nd time fully to trow the mine.

Fly up to about 110m from the mine and stop. Then very slowly tap the forward button and inch forward to 100m. Anything closer and it'll blow.
