I can't thank you enough. As soon as I heard about Everspace 2, the possibility of exclusivity deals from Epic came into my mind and I was so worried this would get scooped up.

I'm really happy to see this still on Steam, planning to buy as soon as you guys put the buy button up.

Btw are there any rules in place for EA and that you can't go exclusive afterwards?

They can always change their minds, there's already been 5 games in the past year that promised steam release (that i know of), but changed to Epic exclusive.
2 games had backers that were promised steam release, one game were on kickstarter.

The games that became exclusives were:
Metro Exodus
Phoenix Point
Shenmue III
Outer Worlds
Ooblets

All 5 had steam release planned, Metro changed to epic a few weeks before release, Phoenix Point and Shenmue III had steam release as a promise to their backers.

Aye. But I doubt that nowadays anybody willingly takes such a huge backlash from the community.

Everybody who releases a game exclusive via Epic knows exactly what comes next. Nobody can deny that. So even the devs of Ooblets should have know. Even them. Nobody cares for your reasons. You support anti consumer methods, you get what the community - which you betrayed - has to offer.


So let's be happy this developer is fighting the good fight. Or at least says so. Well see. I have high hopes.

Well, the developers and their famiies probably care. They need to put food to their table and money don't grow on trees. I do not support the EGS but i understand the reasons someone would choose to go with them.

It's just a matter of the developer being upfront and honest and deal in a good way (not the Ooblets way) with the community's reaction.

But if you choose the EGS way - no're not entitled not to earn forthcoming middle fingers from the community.

Since we got a lot of feedback about our announcement launching on Steam Early Access, let me share a few more details:

As a matter of fact, Valve (because of Steam) and Epic Games (because of Unreal Engine) are equally important partners to us, and we won't throw either of them under the bus.

Thankfully, we got some money in the bank and sales of the predecessor keep exceeding our forecast, so we'll be able to self-fund the production of Everspace 2 until Steam Early Access in Sep 2020 and stick to our promise.

The upcoming Kickstarter (starting 9/9/2019) is to bring our community on board in an invested way early on and also potentially extend the scope of the game by unlocking stretch goals.

I hope this explains our reasoning a bit better.

I played the living hell out of everspace, loved every minute of it and bought every DLC.
