Aaaaaand because of "story" progression... that last one, I contend with.
I truly believe we should be given the CHOICE to get our saves wiped or not with a warning message such as : "WARNING ! NOT wiping your saves WILL result in game breaking bugs and will rob you of good chunks of the story ! Furthermore, you might have to redownload the game completely if... blablabla"
BUT !! Devs have been nice enough to tell us MANY TIMES OVER why they were doing so... :'(
It's disappointing when this happens, but it should be expected; we're playing in a construction site. It's not a spiteful act meant to undo your hard work - you are using an incomplete product and this is part of the risk.
However, so far it should still be possible to even load save games from the Alpha phase, it seems to me that there is some sort of edge-case in your save game that we do not currently account for. Would you be able to send us your save game (to "support @ rockfishgames . com") or upload it somewhere? That way we could identify the problem and maybe code in an exception that would make it possible to load your save once we have released the next update or a hotfix.
Save files are located at C:\Users\{YOUR_USERNAME}\AppData\Local\ES2\Saved\SaveGames You can go to the AppData\Local folder quickly by typing %LocalAppData% in a windows explorer address field. Note that two files are needed in order to load a saved state, so we'd need both files from you. The file names are almost identical, but one of them has "PREVIEW" in it. If you are unsure which files are the right ones, you can also just zip the whole folder and send it to us.
What happens when you try to load them? Do you get a crash window? What exactly does the mesage say? My guess is that it includes the text "Retry was NOT successful", which is the erroe message that we usually get when there were corrupted game files because of a broken download.
I suggest that you try to verify the game files via the steam client and then try to load the saves again. Here's how to:
