I feel like an idiot for asking such questions... however... how do i launch drones from vindicator? I haven't figured it out and I am forced to fight on my own :P

the drones are created from special 'ship wreck' nodes that you can see and that spawn sometimes when defeating enemies, you fly near them and hold F I think.

oh, ok, so I need to try to win few fights first? Might be hard, but I'll try... thanks! Weird that I can't buy the drones in advance heh

I just start playing with a vindicator a few days ago, and i have to say i just love this ship ^^
When you'll have your drones (wich wont be long now you know how to) remeber to "preserve" them, for exemple don't use flak canon.
So far i have best result with thermal as primary, as it never touch your drones, and a sniper as secondary (to shot the red drones, specially the snippers one before they hit your drones)
Another tip, repare them is i think not that a good idea, use a wreck will repare 50% only of a drone life, wait until it's destroyed, and then respawn one, save the wreck for that.

Fly safe, and glhf :criticalhit:

Most combat areas have wrecks you can see and salvage drones from with out fighting, these also seem to respawn regularly. Honestly while I like the idea of a drone ship I found keeping them in the fight tedious and only serve as a distraction against other drones and small ships, big boys just delete them so quickly they may as well have never been there to begin with. I ended up trading in my vindicator for a liberator (gunship) and havent looked back, moves like a vindicator but brings brutal firepower to the table instead of sub-par drones.

If they add ways to buff the drone aspect of the vindicator (WTB special drones like the enemies got, IE linked, armor , webber and detonator drones) I might give it a shot again, but in their current state im sticking with my Liberator.

Vindicator drones are not a replacement for your weapons, they are an addition to your weapons. If you can't kill things on your own, you are still going to struggle even with a full complement of drones helping you.

not saying I was struggling, I am just saying that without drones, Vindicator is not a very good ship :P played with it a little but yeah, I prefer a good dogfight, so got back to my Interceptor. As dogfight is pretty much the same here as it was in Freelancer, I am having a blast. I guess Vindicator is simply not for me :)

Yeah i'd say pick up a more direct ship instead, plus vindicator seems like it would be pretty damn wimpy against story bosses and high-risk zone bosses (which are almost always Destroyers, but had one yesterday that was proceeded by TWO drone carriers, fortunately gunships are pretty good at deleting those in a timely fashion and drones themselves help recharge ULT pretty quickly)

Not really sure what ship would work best for you though ina dog fight capacity, you should check the shops and look at each ships ULT/Special that usually gives you a good idea how they are intended to be used. Maybe a Striker? They are specialized in close combat and their ULT would work wonders on drone carriers, but be useless in a 1 on 1 fight.

EDIT: after looking around, id say pick up a Harbringer(Vanguard type) or a Hornet (Stinger type) both look really good for dog fighting, maybe more towards the harbringer it seems perfect for that sort of thing.

I'm already having a blast in Interceptor, so no worries, found my niche :)

Well of course the Vindicator is better with drones, that goes without saying. I've heard some people complain they can't keep their drones alive, I haven't played the vindicator with this latest update, but I didn't seem to have much problem with that as long as I wasn't relying on my drones to kill everything. Your drones are actually better at being a distraction for your enemies and keeping the fire off of you then they are at actually killing things which means it's even more important that you take advantage of that fact to get in close and wipe everything out with your primary and secondary weapons while the enemies are shooting at your drones.

Flak cannons don't damage your drones. I tested it out not long after getting my Vindicator. The devs seem to realize that making a weapon (one of the best weapons in my opinion) useless with a certain class isn't a good thing.

The Vindicator is NOT wimpy. Especially if you upgrade your Expertise stat. Lately I've just pretty much been wiping the floor with most everything unless there is a ludicrous amount of enemies surrounding me. But then I just use one of my devices to get out of there (I use teleport) and turn around. Single targets stand NO chance.

Lookie here someone suggesting a stat to focus on to maximize the potential of utilizing Vindicator. We actually have folks reading the tool tips. Meanwhile, in other threads suggesting other wise.

Just activate your Ult if you are surrounded and get a quick snack while that rift bar fills up ?^^
