the scope differences between the two games couldn't be further from apart, everything you asked is very far out of scope for the game so i'd say probably SC. this game is far more lean, but maybe when it comes out (which we all know it will before SC) itll have more content lol
It is more fun, if you ask me, it's just very lean on content
If you are bringing up Star Citizen then you DEFINITELY realize the massive media blitz and hype that surrounded it and the amount of money it pulled in.
Why in God's name would you ever come into an early access game on Steam that is considerably more low key than a Star Citizen and think they would be aiming anywhere near such a thing.
Because I just want a few simple things and with all the money and time SC got they delivered not very much to actually play and even less to enjoy. If this game has a smaller vision of what they want with less money I'm wondering what we will get and how long it'll take to get it?
Well I can tell you right now that I haven't seen any "trophy displays". As for if they ever dreamed of such a thing in their game.. /shrugs
Youre giving SC way too much credit. The game doesnt work and its been a running joke in the gaming community at this point.
What's it been, 13 years development now?
Ok, it's just one of the best things (for me) about games like ARK, Rift, Warframe and other stuff is that you can show off your achievments in game. Even just low key stuff like inviting someone on your ship or dimension and they can see what you've put together without being able to touch it or steal it etc.
"development"
No, only about 9 years or so and yes I fully understand that they keep expanding the scope of the game without addressing the vast issues with the current state of the game. I have a ship I bought with real money about 6 years ago and it's still just a drawing! My other ships are in game but one without any game play attached to it and the other just a pointless outdated ship because there is a cheaper one that does better in almost every way for less money. Is SC a 'joke'? Well not yet, I think there is a lot of assets in game that look and work well but until they pull it all together and make an actual game it's just going to remain a fancy looking tech demo. One of my friends has already IRL died of Covid before he even used the 2nd of the ships he bought!
RIP
I could have sworn its been at least 11 or 12 i'll have to look it up. I just remember watching all of their dev streams and the 3 guys that ran that little circle seemed shady as ♥♥♥♥. I didnt trust or believe in a lot of the fluff they were spouting.
I hope it turns into something though and they get all the mechanics working together because it could be a great game. I just think there is more than meets the eye going on with the development, whether that be intentional or unintentional mismanagement, I dont know.
How does it run for you? Can you get it looking nice and run at 60 -120 fps? Could be fun just to fly around for a bit as long as it plays smooth, but last time I checked it people were saying it didnt run well.
Now to answer the OP:
At its current point of development Star Citizen is very close to a Beta phase. The game has a very large assortment of ships that can be obtained in-game for free just by earning credits as you’d expect. There’s a very well-polished and balanced flight model. 3 full sized planets with various biomes and atmospheric conditions and weather patterns, as well as large cities you can wander around in, dozens of moons with their own unique features and locations. Cavern systems, various space stations all fully loaded with shops and services. A dynamic mission and reputation system with missions that string together and can have competitive counter-missions other players can pick up, a crime and punishment system including a prison with related missions and escape opportunities, a nutritional system and status effect system for each character, and a large variety of equipments, armor pieces, and weapons + attachments. And it’s all wrapped up in a very nice seamless open world where flying from space down to a planet, getting off your ship and walking around on foot is all one continuous process.
So in essence Star Citizen has made a huge amount of progress and gets major game content updates every 3 months or so, but it’s still fairly unstable and buggy.
All that said, it very much is in a playable spot right now, but it’s a very in-depth sandbox with a lot of moving parts and complexity to it that many people won’t be super interested in, so if you like the idea of EVE except first person crossed with Second Life crossed with DayZ, and you’re okay with bugs and performance issues that get fixed over time, you’ll probably get a big kick out of Star Citizen.
Meanwhile, Everspace 2 is not going for the “Huge ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Space Sim” audience that Star Citizen is, instead it’s much more like Borderlands except in space and you play as a space ship instead of a dude. It’s very well polished and has a lot of content but it’s focusing primarily on being an open world RPG that just also happens to have the aesthetics of a space sim, as opposed to the mechanics of one.
So ultimately ask yourself this:
Would you rather play a deep and complex space life simulator that’s primarily an MMO sandbox, or would you rather play a single player looter shooter open world RPG?
There’s also the fact that you can easily just play both. I’d recommend Everspace 2 first just because it’s a lot more new player friendly and you don’t have to suffer through lots of bugs and server resets. But you can play both at some point. They are two entirely separate games going for two entirely separate genres, and they both do what they set out to do very well but with various levels of crust and grime.
