Armor lock?
I am enjoying the game and agree with most of the design decisions so far. One decision I very much disagree with is that while you can replace just about any component while in space, you cannot replace your armor plating. WTF?? This is very annoying and I strongly disagree with this decision. I understand if you lock it while in battle, that makes sense, but afterward? All this accomplishes is that I now have to make a separate trip back to my base, replace the armor, then hyperjump back to wherever I was going. Not fun.

Also, the device to repair your armor is nice but once you start your escape the 12 seconds gets eaten up very fast and the device is no longer useful. Personally, I would just get rid of the 12 second thing altogether, or at least give that as one of the device upgrade options.

Thanks for your consideration.

Cheers,

H

Ok so here's the deal, at least in my experience. Now that I'm past the early (essentially tutorial) area and am starting to get into more interesting fights, the armor thing is becoming a deal breaker for me. I get into a fight, armor is damaged, cannot repair without jumping back to base or some other repair station. I then jump back to wherever I was to continue the mission, repeat jump to fix armor, uggggggghhh.... this is not fun and makes me want to give up the game altogether at this point. I am hopeful that this is changed soon as I really, really, really want to enjoy playing this game.

Thank you,

H

Deal breaker, yikes? Okay here let me explain. The reason why it’s locked and the other items isn’t is due to the fact that players could simply swap their armours out one by one in battle (or out of battle). Basically a meta will exist where you could hoard multiple armour items and never have to worry about your armour, thus making the game way too easy.

It sounds exactly like an exploit where you don’t have to worry about your hull ever so long as you have a few armour modules in your inventory. Let’s say they removed the lock, having to balance this would be absurd as enemies would need to do a lot more damage to increase the difficulty and break through all armours you swap in and out before they even touch your hull.

Edit: you don’t have to go back to base. You can simply go to the nearest docking place and repair your armour there.

Thanks for your feedback.

We are aware of the inconvenience of locking armor to prevent near-infinite armor exploit. While it might not be changing anytime soon, know that we're not 100% happy with the current build and will very likely be changing how players equip/unequip primary/secondary weapons and all the various modules for a clean, simple way to experiment with found loot without breaking the intended balance of combat.

I think you kind of missed the point here OP.

1: Armor locks because if you swapped it - you'd have near infinite health as the dev pointed out. - Lock only removes if your docked. Yeah annoying if you find a better armor mod in flight...but understandable.
2: Armor can be repaired by making kills 9 times out of 10.....kind of handy...not nearly OP...but its a nice feature...pretty sure all of them do this as I've had lots of situations where my ship gets banged up..I take out a whole squad..full health again. Or just dock at the nearest landing pad.

Now if your going to call it a "deal breaker" - ok.....that's on you....but honestly? Non-issue here.

The last time I died was like 3 times in the first few hours......I've come close to getting my tail handed to me a few times - but I usually get out just fine...and I've had some mother of all furballs lately.....its a non-issue really. (Currently roaming about in an Interceptor I+ )

when you hit the part of the demo where higher rarity parts drop they start giving hundreds of base stats so your hull will eclipse both your armor and shields. Higher level armors have higher repairs per kill on top of a higher base point value so if you are able to snipe down drones its easy armor replenishment.

Honestly i found myself having to make frequent pit stops because of limited inventory space anyways and to check for items used for upgrading perks

This.......constantly drowning in mats. I generally only repair once in a while.

Find items that have repair chance on kill, i use it a lot and btw once in full superior gear this post is obsolete anyway. Even with normal gear it is about tactics, you can't have a wild west standoff face to face, it is hit and run until you have good gear.

Thank you all so much for the kind replies and especially for the developer comments. Sorry for the salty post, but it's really because I loved Everspace so much and am really hoping for an even better experience with Everspace II, which is currently very frustrating for me.

I completely understand not being able to swap out armor while in battle, as that would definitely break the game. But why not after I barely escape a fight and am now in space with nobody around me? It's at that point that I now have to take the time to hyperdrive back to a base to either repair or swap out my armor, which is getting very tedious at this point in the game. I understand the need to keep this from making the game too easy, which it sounds like later in the game would definitely occur as you get much stronger and accumulate more items, better armor, etc. Of note, my steam time is not accurate as I have the game on hold for much of that time doing other things, so I'm actually only an hour or two outside of the tutorial area (as mentioned). Maybe there is a happy medium somewhere?

Anyway, thanks again and happy gaming to everyone :)

You keep playing...you learn..you adapt...you grow...you get better mods...better upgrades.

It becomes a non-issue as you get experience and get better.

At first its gonna be tough....so be a little paranoid..don't go full in - snipe/be sneaky/dirty.....that's how I get away with wiping out destroyers in 5 seconds or less flat. :D

Will there be fast-travel to base?

I know there is the supply drone perk from Hive (which I'm in the middle of unlocking) but a fast travel to homebase would be great...even if from a space station. Or, just let us access our storage anywhere.

Only 11 hours in so maybe I've missed these options.
SpawnCap Feb 5, 2021 @ 8:55pm
The...10 or so hours I've played and the armor lock never bothered me. I guess I expect to have to go back to base to repair something. Unless there was some repair bot, and even space games that have that sort of thing a lot of times armor and hull aren't included in what they repair/regenerate.

Since only the first two systems are available right now, we didn't put a priority on our fast-travel implementation. But don't worry; it's coming.
Honestly the OP has a point here. The argument of infinite armor is true aswell, but honestly as you can switch it anyway on every docking point it just makes it "uncomfortable" right now but still it is the same thing kinda, ofc you should not be able to switch in fight (which in my opinion should also go for weapons, as far as i remember you can switch those right now and have endless ammo basically).
Well long talking short point:
Wouldn't the easiest way around all this not just bound the % you have on the armor on the ship and not on the armor piece itself? So you need to repair it anyway at some point and switching the armor only changes the base stats and % repair per kill on the armor? That way there is no infinite armor exploit as the lets say 50% of armor will stay bound on the ship instead of getting back to 100% everytime.
Nakigara1985 Feb 8, 2021 @ 10:54am
Honestly, it hasn't been a big deal for me. Every once in a while I'll have to repair my armor. But most times I just enter into a random fight and my armor is A-OKAY. the orbs also help as well.
Kage Goomba Feb 8, 2021 @ 10:57am
Yeah i fail to see the problem here...leave it be
