They are a lot more similar in that ES2 is now an open world rpg as opposed to ES1 which is a rogue lite. Currently there’s two systems out of a planned eight which is a lot less than what GoF 2 had, however the systems themselves are a lot more varied and have a lot more focus on exploration. Unlike in GoF2 where each/majority of the locations in a system simply has a station and wouldn’t be that vastly different from one another.
All ships in ES2 are fighter ships and there are 3 classes (light, medium and heavy) and each class has 3 subclasses. So in total there’s 9 ships which sounds a lot less than what GoF2 had to offer, however in this case each ship can be customised by a lot. So two of the same ship might look completely different from one another.
