As for Everspace 2 - not gonna happen IMHO
Its clear the dev's are not likely going to go multiplayer let alone co-op mode - its an adventure game...and considering its roots back in Everspace 1 - just not really feasible in the current design in terms of PvP or co-op.
Contrary to popular opinion - its a major undertaking to make something single player - multiplayer. Networking Traffic/Servers/Coding etc.
Ironically enough - Elite Dangerous did just that from what I' was told when I asked about history etc....it wasn't the smoothest transition - they are still plagued with weirdness overall in terms of what they went for.
Now if they decide to do it after 1.0 launch? Who am I to say otherwise :)
As long as they finish the game and do a great job - is all I care about.
Imagine the popularity of this game if it had multiplayer like good old Freelancer
It's crazy to think that a game such like this, with it's scope, is single player only.
I'm about to buy it regardless, though, but for their next title, if they ever make an Everspace 3, I do seriously hope they add multiplayer in the same veins as Freelancer.
I do hope ES3 has coop only time will tell.
Yeah.. I mean it does depend on the scope of the multiplayer feature, obviously, but if we're talking Freelancer scope then yeah it would be quite an undertaking.
Fingers crossed though, that Everspace 3 if ever developed, will have co-op or multiplayer with player hosted servers.
A multiplayer mod would be even more of an undertaking than if the developer had added it in themselves, though.
Without a proper netcode to sync with the game and players, multiplayer mods tend to fade away as fast as modders start working on them. It's just too much work.
The netcode isn't the only obstacle they have to face.
Player vs player vs npc prediction is a pain in the butt to work out.
The only reason it's too late is probably because they didn't start designing it with multiplayer in mind. The game would kind of need to have multiplayer aspects and features already present for it to work.
It's a shame but it is what it is. Just wish i could still play Freelancer. Blasted Microsoft and their updates have ruined a lot of old games (and even software). Most won't even work properly even with the compatibility mode turned on for older windows versions.
i have a few freinds that are interested but they realy would like it if it was a co op
is this in develpment?
I hate it when people force multiplayer mechanics in to a game I want to play by myself. I want to be the badass space pilot smashing holes through the galaxy, I don't want to be one of 45,000 in each location, or have to jump in to multiplayer systems to complete missions or whatever.
I don't think there's enough variety in ship builds to make multiplayer very interesting anyway. Not a dig at the game, I love it, but everyone in multiplayer would have almost the same loadout in the same ships doing the same moves. What would the point of that be?
Its not about if all want multiplayer, because its gonna be a optional mechanic should it ever be added to this title in the Everspace series.
So that you don't need to play it if you don't want to so, nobody is as stupid and force multiplayer mechanics in singleplayer games (oh, ghostgames).
I could Imagine that gamemodes like coop and competetive PvP would fit the game pretty well. Everything above coop (3 Players) in non pvp modes would be too much tho, because it would not fit the games balancing and style.
Not that multiplayer will come soon anyways, as the devs said: Developing multiplayer is like developing a whole new game ontop of the already existing one. Its simply too much effort currently, maybe in Everspace 3 or after finishing ES2 if they feel so.
But they said modsupport is gonna come, so there is somewhere gonna be someone who will develop a multiplayer mod (as always :) ) so not all hope is lost. It will depend how deeply the devs let the game be moddable tho.
First: there will be way more ships as the game gets more finished (look devstreams and roadmap) so there will be more then enough ships.
Secondly: Peoples playstyles vary, there is no: everybody is gonna fly the same setup, because the way people play decides which weapons they use, what you say would imply that everybody has the exact same playstyle, which is simply not true. People would even try to use diverse different tactics and setups to make it interesting (Eg: Starcore PvP) despite there maybe beeing a most efficient setup.
With different Playstyles and tactics different setups get viable and similar efficient, that's the whole reason why there are multiple weapon and equipment types, to accomadate and support different playstyles.
