Combat Engineers Running
When I try to use combat engineers they run off the field?

They only place mines (like basic engineers do building) and run away.

Engineers, Combat engineers and medics will auto-retreat after their jobs are done.
Sappers and Veteran sappers will stay and fight like normal infantry.

Forgot to be more specific, they are running BEFORE they place the mines

Mines/ structures can't be placed in enemy territory.

If you place these but the enemy pushes the front line or takes the zone before the engineers get there, they likely leave. (Full transparency: The last part is a reasonable guess, I have not observed this and can't test it right now)

It hasnt been in enemy or newly occupied enemy territory. As soon as the engineers spawn, some of them immediately retreat.

Are you doing something like laying 2mAT mines?
What actions are you taking, in detail?

Click on mines at bottom of screen, click on one point, drag to another, click another point, engineers spawn, they are either already running away or going towards the mine location.

And an entire line of green mines stays there?

Do they all get built by the guys that don't flee or only a couple? (AP mines are 4 or so mines PER "mine" deployed...so 8 is only 2 engineers worth)

I ask because placement is a flawed nightmare. A tiny hill feature can be a separate entity and deny placement dispite being pathable.

I have also build a line of tank traps, hedgehogs, dragonsteeth and got a line of green placeholders, but as they got built it somehow invalidated placement of others and the line had several holes when they finished.

Yes I noticed that bug too after I spent the early mines and the bugs come with the new available mines regenerated by the games. If you place the minefield too big, sometimes, they just refuse to place the mines and run away. So only place small fields with those regenerated mines.
