Men of War II vs Call to Arms - Gates of Hell: Ostfront
I haven't played a lot but I enjoyed playing Men of War II so far, I was curious if anyone who owns CtA - Gates of Hell: Ostfront, could help me better understand what are the pros and cons of each games. Thanks!

It would be hard for me to convey all of my thoughts on the two games without making a small essay so I will keep it simple from what I know. Gates of hell is actively being developed including core changes such as AI, sound, visuals, new units and paid content content. Slow but steady pace with a giant chunk of single player, coop, and multiplayer content.

Men of War 2 is something I don't know as much about, its being made by a dev which didn't make the previous men of war game. This game seems to be more of a progression based strategy game compared to Gates of hell which you get every unit from start. Men of war also seems similar to the mission structure of GOH other than this push/front line game mode which is wildly different.

I cant speak for MOW2 but I can say GOH is fantastic and a rather complete experience than this seems. Granted I haven't looked into MOW2 that much. If you want more specific information I can break other aspects of the games down.

The Men of War franchise was developed by two developers! Now one of them develops Call to Arms and Best Way develops Men of War 2.

In a quick survey, apparently responsible for the style of play, it is Best Way that released Soldiers: Heroes of World War II in 2004 and Face to War in 2006. In 2009 Men of War was released with Best Way and Digitalmindsoft.

I played a bit of the Call to Arms Demo, I didn't like the balance, a mobile artillery has the same range as any armored vehicle, that is, it has no tactical value. Here at Men of War... Artillery is a powerful tool!

GOH:OF is made by the same people who made MOWAS, they brought on RobZ onto the development team popular for RobZ Realism mod which completely overhauled the balance for MOWAS,

So the games a lot more "realistic" with how its portrayed in singleplayer vs multiplayer

GoH Ostfront is made by BWS. GoH is their first and only game. But yes, RobZ and other former modders are part of BWS. :)

This is helpful already, thanks for taking the time to reply!

Many thanks, I'm glad you mentioned that, I was wondering what was the history around the "split" of the two franchises, I played a lot of Soldiers: Heroes of World War II when it came out, it was amazing.

It's really simple for me at this point.

both GOH and base CTA are unplayable for me. the devs refuse to make it even basically function for 4k. And I refuse to purchase a lower resolution monitor just to play a game and its standalone expansion. (scaling does not work)

It doesn't matter how much I used to enjoy GOH or CTA.

What matters is this game actually works on a 4k display.

So to me it doesn't matter which one is better, when only one is actually playable. GOH could be the best game in the history of man, but it automatically loses the comparison when it isnt comparable.

Why is MOW:AS2 better than Gates of Hell in your opinion?

Gates of hell hands down. One, you won’t struggle with toxic high rank lobbies kicking you off their team if you are lower rank. Two - you won’t struggle with low 30 fps frame rates because of the engine and atrocious pings of third world players that play it. Three, you won’t be reduced to a frustratingly low unit pop cap where players in the late phase tend to field only meme tanks and artillery and have little to no infantry on the lines because they can’t spawn it in without losing one of their meme units.

GoH is also a more incredibly detailed game than whatever this game claims to be. I had this game on my wishlist for over a year and was so pumped today to see YouTube footage on it and a playable demo.. I saw enough of plane and over accurate artillery spam to make me not want to play this at all. I will keep it on my wishlist to see what they end up doing with it, but from what I’ve seen gameplay wise in this tech demo I am not impressed. I’d label it as a slightly more Sophisticated version of Company of heroes with its arcade like gameplay.

Wrong statement , i also played GoH and i can tell you the real arty piece always have longer range and they also powerful , what you describe is a vehicle carry an infantry gun , short range is expected compare to dedicated AT cannon .

Anyways , is it true that the one who is making MoW2 is not the one who made MoW ?

How do you mean, whats the issue? I haven't played base CTA in awhile but I regularly play GOH. I'm on a 144hz 4k gsync monitor and have had no issues on my old PC and my new PC I got a few weeks back.

^^this, runs plenty perfectly on my oled lg4k. 120+, aorus 3080 i7
resolution is uber dependent on your gpu( resolution is 100% the greatest visuals boost) contrary to many deceptive/uneducated salesmen presenting qled as even comparable to oled) though many dont learn this from bestbuysteve sending you home with a <3060-70 for your new 4k+ build.

But if your gpu checks out then its file/sw related, or your drivers in the unlikely chance you never updated them at all essentially lol.

Rant over(youd be surprised how many friends/customers ive met/know that have zero knowledge of resolution other than 4k, or ‘its really wide’ for ultrawide (3440p)). ending up sol, angry, and confused w/o

Goh is a great game, awesome, I love it a lot, but there are two things that make it not playable in multiplayer:
Lobby and p2p.

So, according to these parameters, mov2 is better for the mass player.
