I've spent a good deal time playing this, as you can see. But I won't be recommending the game.

As RISK games go, this is pretty clean and simple. Presentation is pretty good. But that's all it has over the many, many other options available to play RISK. Gameplaywise, it's the same. It's RISK.

In the update today, they removed game features from the free version and locked them behind the premium version. It's not just maps as other reviewers have noted, but certain modifications you can play on every map. I really enjoy playing with Blizzards and now I can't without premium.

Locking features behind premium is not a problem in itself, but I don't play games that do this kind of behavior. If you want features behind premium, keep them behind premium when you introduce them. Don't remove features that are already there and lock them behind a paywall.

So I'll be uninstalling the game immediately.

The positives: The art is nice, the interface is functional. It's certainly good to have a digital version with a blitz function to roll dice so that you don't spend half your time rolling dice. Essentially everything good that can be said about this game is that it's automated risk. That's it.
The negatives: The business model absolutely breaks this game. Everything interesting and varied is locked behind a paywall, which would be fair enough if the CORE gameplay wasn't also locked behind a paywall. You start with some 150 of these ingame tokens. Playing a match in multiplayer of any kind costs you 10 token. You regenerate 1. Friggin ONE token per HOUR. My longest matches lasted something short of 20 minutes.
This game is for some reason actively discouraging you from playing it. I do not for the life of me understand this descision. I want to play more risk. Can I maybe NOT wait several days just so I can play 2 hours of risk? This is free to try. This might as well be a demo that lasts for a single day.

Conclusion. Give it a try. Spend the currency that you start with and then leave. Dust of your board or find a different digital version that doesn't prevent you from playing it as much as you want. For the love of god do not feed into this horrendous business model. Do yourself a favor and don't be the whale that they are clearly milking here.

EDIT: first of all let me start of by apologizing for that last bit. Saying that this game is exploiting whales was unreasonable and unfair. This game cannot be accused of that. I made that statement in frustration of being time-gated. It was ill advised and I hereby retract it.
My suggestion for a proper free-to-play model:
Allow me to play the basic mode as much as I want. The standard mode the standard map. No bells and whistles.
Then charge me for anything extra. The additional maps, zombie mode, capital mode, the Britain map, the Pangaea map, the Americas map, etc. Also charge me if I want cosmetics such as different leaders and different emotes. Heck you could make ones for Halloween and Christmas and yes people will buy that. Especially if you price them reasonably.
I’m personally not one who would buy cosmetics but a lot of people will gladly pay for it. I’d personally rather pay for the premium maps and modes.
What I’m essentially saying here is that I’d be more one board with micro-transactions than I am with time-gates. I personally find that preferable and we all know how popular these are with us “entitled gamers”. It’s better than time-gates at least.
You could have the token system for premium content like that: Wanna try zombie mode? 10 tokens. Wanna try capital mode? 10 tokens. Wanna check out the pangea map? 10 tokens. Doing it like that, you could even have them not regenerate at all and just say: here’s some 200 tokens that will let you try out the premium content before you commit to buying it.
In a model like this I would play the game for days and then figure: hey you know what, I’m bored of replaying this same thing. Let’s look at premium. Oh cool, capital mode looks interesting, plus a whole bunch of different maps. 13 bucks ya say? Sign me up! I’ve had so much fun with the game thus far, I feel invested. Let’s go.
In contrast what’s happening here is that I play for some 2 hours and go: oh great now I have to wait over 2 days to get those 60 tokens back. That does NOT make me invested in the game, that pulls me right out of the flow and it makes me feel exploited.
The very most basic standard match I can do is essentially being treated the same as the premium content and I don’t think that’s a good way of doing it.
As I said before and will repeat: get rid of the time-gate and you will have a paying customer in me and I will recommend this game to the friends who introduced me to risk in the first place.

Not an actual Free to Play game, you get tokens that limits how many games you can play at a time, this bullsh1t should stay on mobile games, and Steam should remove the tag for Free to Play from this game.

Fun game. But don't advertise it as free when you have limited plays without paying.

Very fun, Until my friends ganged up on me and started attacking every place that I owned so then I decided to block them on all platforms and now we are no longer friends.

Imagine, just imagine, having a good game, having great settings, and allowing your players to enjoy it.

Then, as a new year reward to your loyal player base, you make an update, and in said update, remove existing features that were there for years, and put them behind a paywall. Congrats, you suck, I'm uninstalling.
