Emotes are one part of the update which will allow people to communicate better (in a canned way). We mentioned this back in May. https://store.steampowered.com/newshub/app/1128810/view/2176872191804595732
We cannot have full "free text" chat (which you could do via Discord or Steam chat anyway) as our licence doesn't allow it as opens up way too many ways for people to share private information and harass people.
You'll be able to earn/unlock some in future updates also. But the good thing is they are just a small part of the game and only there for people who want them.
Yeah "as you could over steam chat anyway" only with people you know already if you add people in the game you can't communicate with them at all only spam them with invites and emotes.
Even if another person is a steam user you implented not a single function to open the steam overlay and add their steam account to communicate with them, yet you say they can communicate over steam anyway.
You closed both paths down and suggest that you use one for communication rofl.
Valid comments. We're unable to facilitate free chat due to licence and risk to users. If we opened a steam chat window that's a grey area that would be too risky for us.
We're revising the canned chat system to be more flexible and have greater range but it'll never get to the point of free chat.
Seriously appreciate devs talking to the community. Thanks for the transparency guys!
I understand that point which you made clear, however you stated people could communicate in steam more properly.
I think we had a miss understanding so I give you an example.
I play a game and meet a person - he adds me on risko as a friend to play more games.
I can clearly see from his picture that he is a steam user - I would like to ADD that user as a FRIEND on STEAM.
Now I can either try to search his name on steam and hope I find him under thousands of entries where my only confirmation is his STEAM PROFILE PICTURE.
Some steam users even use the ingame pictures there the chances to add the RIGHT person is even more slim.
Example end.
What I am requesting is a SECOND add friend button if someone linked his steam profile.
So you doN't add him in Risk only but on steam.
This friend request can either be denied or accepted there is no chat directly so you shouldn't have any issues with your license and it would give the chance to get some players for some private fun lobbies with communications on steam or teamspeak / discord however( third party so also not in violation with your license)
Simply add an option for steam users (enable others to add me on steam) and if it's activated and SOMEONE clicks on it open the steamoverlay with said persons steam profile open.
Another easy option would be for users to link their friend code with the game to ease up your process.
Another easy option from your part would be to share the information (like many steam games do) so people you played together with show up under "recently played" in the steam overlay menu.
This also doesn't go against your license since children accounts on steam are forbidden anyway ToS age of 13 (or higher don't remember it precicely) and those accounts are under parental control including accepting or denying friends.
I gave you now several possible solutions and hope that you will implent one of these in the near future to improve the game experience since right now it's the only thing missing from making this sucessful on steam; otherwise we could simply swap to free versions of risk which are out there for years where you only fight random enemies that you never meet again / can't communicate with anyway.
I hope this removed the confusion from the previous posts, since I don't ask you to implent a future that opens a CHAT window in steam overlay but the steam profile or a friend request as described above.
And as the developer has already explained to you, that creates a grey area of facilitating insult and hate speech through Steam chat itself and the game, which they aren't willing to do.
No the developer missread it as opening a chat window directcly that's why I explained it.
You failed to read text 1 and text 2 properly and simply wrote a reply which could be considered stupid in this context.
