Cube World had an Alpha release back in 2013 or so, and it's a very different game than the steam release. And, if you've seen any recent videos from the developer, they most likely are the upcoming, Omega version.

Unfortunately, Cube World - Steam is too quirky to give an honest yes or no, as to if its worth purchasing. There are a lot of factors that can turn a player away, while others find the game enjoyable.
My opinion is - no. others may be yes. you're probably better waiting for the Omega version to be released...if any of us are still alive.

Here's some in-depth details, if interested.

Basically, Cube World (Steam) has a very tedious game loop. You'll start in a land and slowly acquire better gear and 'functional' type items, such as the ability to hang glide, ride a pet, open / pass through specific doors.
But, once you cross over into a new land / region, all of the gear will be basically useless and all of the functional items will be only usable in the land you found them, and have to be collected again for each new region. Any top items will be reduced to lowest tier. you can still use them until unequipped (they soft disappear), but they lose most / all power. There is one exception to the gear downgrading, but its hardly worth mentioning.

The developer is currently working on a new version of Cube World, 'Cube World Omega' - and its more in-line with the original, Alpha version of the game.
There's no indication of how far Omega is, in terms of development. There's no indication as to if it will be a free update to Cube World - Steam, and considering the drastic difference between Omega and Steam version, it most likely will not.

Speaking without bias, the Cube World developer has had a questionable history with the development of Cube World.
The quick story is that Cube World was in Alpha and released for public purchase back in the 2013 or so area. A lot of awesome features were promised and the game looked awesome. There was some drama / negative things that occurred to the developer, which may or may not be true (we're not mind readers), and development on Cube World seemed abandoned.
Around 2019, and out of nowhere, the developer states Cube World is being released on Steam and anyone who purchased Alpha would get a free steam key - which was true, either completely, or for as long as the developers website was allowing people to claim their key. Currently, it may be possible to claim the key through contact email - i don't know because i got mine in the beginning. i'm just stating this because, regardless of the quality of the Steam release, the honesty of handing keys to Alpha owners was met.

But, the Steam release was a completely different game than what was 'promised' to the Alpha backers. The features that were implemented were not what the Alpha backers were expecting, and a lot of people were left feeling cheated and / or upset.

The developer then went dark, again, shortly after the release of Cube World Steam. Then, around May 2023 or so, the developer announces Cube World Omega, puts out some videos and music, and no further details.

unless you have an abundance of free time and money, wait for Omega :spacebooze:

Are they similar game?
Semirotta Feb 14, 2024 @ 12:58am
Abso-fudging-lutely not worth a buy. It is abandoned game and ended up being bad one compared to the first version.
Wait for Omega, itll be another cost to pay if you wish to play most likely. I very much doubt we get the game free who have been part of the community since basically day one.
Darius Feb 14, 2024 @ 2:58am
