Where can i download and play the Alpha while Omega comes out?

might have to hunt around a bit. there will be a lot of illegit links and i dunno where a good place to get it is. i probably have the installer somewhere, you'll have to delete a file that serves as a DRM check (literally it missing affects nothing but your access to the game) and then you'll be good to go.

It's still considered piracy if you download the alpha from a third party website. Beside that, it could contain malicious parts even though the source seems trustworthy, that's why I strongly advise against downloading it from such sources.

this is true. sad but it is what it is. if i had a place to keep it where anyone could grab it i'd host it. still piracy, but as far as anyone is concerned really its only piracy if the author demands a discontinuation of service and the 3rd party host says no. there is probably more to it but thats a basic, you can't call it piracy and sit there and do nothing about it.

as with everything, have anti-virus with an active scan running before you download it and while you play the game. if it gets a hit, you got a bad upload. i've "rented" a few games online in my day, back when i was broke and stuck with the hardware i could afford. heck i think the last time i did a pirate anything was during the massive Epic exclusives rush when something i was gonna outright buy, went there instead of steam. then i played an early build and decided it wasnt even worth it to pirate it. its on steam now after what feels like 7 or 8 years and still is in early access.

Even if you run an antivirus scan before, it's not a guarantee it will detect all infections/malware.

Anyways, I just wanted to make the point that we (or atleast I) won't pin such threads, as
a) it's still piracy and
b) we can't verify 100% that a download link is legit.

I hardly feel this needs to be said *on Steam* but a proven way to prevent piracy is making your work easily available from the source. FWIW I've checked Chris's upload against my old installs and the only change he's made is removing interface.plx

I wish the alpha would be available here on Steam or as download from the old website, but it doesn't look like this is going to happen.

Did you just check the filenames or did you also check for changes inside the files?
