[Discussion] Cube World Omega Announcement
Please share your opinions on this announcement here, and keep it civil! This will doubtless be a controversial announcement but I ask that we keep our takes nice and lukewarm.

IMPORTANT NOTE
To answer the question 90% of players at this point seem to have: we do not know if Omega will be a free upgrade or a new game. No one really does except for Wollay.

claiming he did it on purpose to spy someone makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
Unless someone happens to be conspiracy minded.

OK

I personally have paid for the game 2 times now, once when it was on a website, and now once on steam... i feel like if Wollay does not want backlash it should be a free update to the people that have supported him.... I loved this game when i first played it MANY years ago and have always looked forward to what Wollay has in store for the game, but the "ghosting" because he cant take feedback for years then coming back and possibly asking for more funding is not going to go well with the community..... (I love the game, and without being toxic i hope Wollay is doing ok mentally, but it does not excuse the behavior).

Literally anyone could name their character Wollay.

I guess this is another entry to our list of unhinged conspiracy theories. We have quite the collection at this point.

Show me proof that I'm wrong that a "depressed" Wollay didn't go around and spy on people until he was forced to patch out the ability to do so.

Nice try, but that's not how it works. The one who makes the extraordinary claim is the one who has to provide the evidence to support the claim.

Which I did. You haven't provided any proof to counteract the proof I've shown.

You posted a video where some random person from the internet is exploiting the well known security hole in the game, trolling these other people. I have no idea why you think this person was Wollay himself, it makes zero sense to assume that.

So you have proof that this is an imposter and not the real Wollay?

This is so silly I regret getting baited to this discussion. But maybe you can answer some questions since we're here. What exactly was Wollay "spying" in your version of the story? Just some random players playing his game? Why? Why couldn't he just go to twitch.tv like everyone else if he wanted to see people play his game? You know he could have used an invisible avatar to go unnoticed but somehow he chose to use a game character with his own name displayed on top. Why did he do that? Is he stupid? Why did he need to exploit the known vulnerability to do that? As the creator of the game he could have orchestrated a lot more discreet way to conduct this "spying", whatever that even means. Did he stop doing this after he himself patched the security issue? If so, why?

There's probably more questions but let's go with these first.

Or... we could just assume it was actually not Wollay but some random troll from the internet. This would save us from all the mental gymnastics. People trolling others is a perfectly normal thing that happens all the time. Occam's razor.

So, answering my question with another, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Anyways,

He "patched" admin access, and abondoned the game, there's been one singular patch after release,(You can look this up yourself) and it was just to close admin access that he thought he had sole access to but people figured out how to enable admin access for themselves.

As for why a "depressed" Wollay would spy on people? Is this a joke?

Have you never created something and wanted to watch it unfold and see how people truely react to it and not while streaming?

Anyways, back to my question that you didn't answer.

Do you have proof that this is an imposter and not the real Wollay?

If yes then what is it?

The one that makes the claim must prove the claim, the only thing other people can do is inject as much logic as possible in opposition. You're the one claiming this is the real Wollay. I don't like the guy either but it's far more sensible that it was some random troll using the dev's name while using an exploit than it actually being Wollay. There's no logic to him both A. using his actual name, and B. doing it at all.

What does he get out of this back door for real?

unless people are doing a play by play of their thoughts in the text chat while playing a game off stream this doesn't actually do anything more than watching a random mic-less streamer.

its like "we've announced a new scam.... game, but that doenst mean that we're gonna finish or even release.....
after the day before, steam should take more precaution over scams from indie devs... well they kinda did, if you promiss something like season pass and stuff, and dont deliver, we can ask for refund, but games like this, scammed everybody, and still beeing selled a """high""" price for its content is kinda sad

Farkon, you are in personal danger being on the internet with this level of paranoia. There are many people online who will support and encourage your thinking rather than try to talk you down.

Those people are cult recruiters. They will utterly ruin your life. Try not to become prey.

That's a standard thing developers do all the time, it's called recording gameplay metrics and you agree to it with every eula click. No-one needs to log in to your world as a little rpg dude for this, the game itself simply logs how you play and sends the info home after each session. It's as invisible to most players as cloud saves happening.

As for 'admin access', everyone in the world has admin access to CW via modding apis and cheat engine. The game has zero meaningful protection against shenanigans.

Wollay hurriedly patched out the ability to invade 'offline' sessions because that's a level of ♥♥♥♥ up that will get your game pullled from Steam.

Uh, thanks? Talk me down all you want, I was here 5 years ago on launch day, I was here when Wollay invaded my private game while I was with another friend, I know how to track IPs, even though at the time IPv6 wasn't as popular and tracking through IPv4 is harder, you can still track ARP traffic.

Right, but, to see what people really think by going to their private games and look at them chat in-game, is what he did. The stream I posted was just one example, and there were more at the time.

Correct, he thought he was the only one who could do this as well, and then quickly patched it when people found out about this.

Thinking that it's not Wollay but some random troll from the internet, despite them perfectly making Wollay's in-game appearance AND his wife on launch day, Wollay having a track record of trolling people via the Alpha , pathologically lied in the past and using depression as a shield . You really think that's not Wollay?

the short of it, if you knew the users SteamID# which, anyone that can view your profile can acquire, they could effectively self invite themselves into your game. was talking with a guy to figure out what was happening and see if between me and him could reproduce this and explain what was happening, he got banned from the forums for it by a community mod.

another one of those instances i'm surprised i wasn't banned since i was directly discussing the same topic. which means it probably wasnt breaking the rules, they just didn't wan the conversation happening anymore. white knight banning defense basically.

Can you tell me the thread you were discussing that in or username of that guy? I could look that up.
I believe there are quite many accounts that were unjustifiedly banned but honestly I don't have the time to reinvestigate every single one. However I can help with single accounts if you have the username for me.
thread is probably long gone by now. i could check the ol steam group i made and see if he is still in it.
