Something people don't like to consider is that the big advantage that Veloren has aside from being free is both being open sourced and that we actually get transparency with the devs. I like Veloren but I have an awful time getting into it in its current state, much like people on here, but the difference is that I know it's a Pre-Alpha (emphasis on the "pre") that's not only a loooooong way from being finished, but also something that we as players can actually, y'know, follow the development of? We can see the devs actually collaborating with each other and asking for + incorporating the feedback of us regular players, we're clearly showed what they've been working on and what their next plans for the game are, and we can actually see new code being written on Github and their Discord server. The game's in an arguably enjoyable state rn for sure, but at least we know without a doubt that there's work being put into it on a daily basis to make it as best as it can be.
Compare that to literally the only "proof" we have of Wollay still working on Cube World being Soundcloud uploads and a email from a complete rando promising stuff that might not even be in the next update, much like what has constantly happened throughout the Alpha -> Beta/Release dev cycle. I wanna take him at his word but I'm not going to believe anything that he says until I see "update queued" beside CW in my library + actually see the stuff he's showing off on my monitor, in my copy of the game, post-update. Again, where's my regional questlines? My grand quests? My faction leaders? More complex quests? All the teased stuff that I was hyped for that's not in the latest release after I waited for an update for like 9 years straight? Something something "the same history, the same mistakes, over and over again".
Also I gotta say that it's pretty funny that this thread literally proved that one translator working on the game's point in the other thread lmfao. OP politely offered it as an alternative game for people to check out, with no drama inducing arguments like "this is much better than CW's half-assed state", and the first post immediately labels them a shill that wants people to abandon CW. That's a certified wut moment right there.
Thank you for bumping my post for no reason. <3 And thank you for not having a real opinion. :* <3
It's almost like it's a pre-alpha
Gasp! You can't mean it's.. It's.. Extremely far from finished?! My god, we're all doomed!
Also Veloren is open source. So naturally it'll have faster development over CubeWorld which only has a two person team..
And from what I've heard, he only showed up to release it on Steam after years of being quiet, updated(many will say screwed up/destroyed) the game and then left again.
IMO, Veloren seems like a better choice in the current state, as they are actually working on it. Using open-source as an argument is pretty bad, since Wollay could do the same.
Might be actually longer than 9 years. Although it has literally been so long that I've actually lost count. Probably says enough as it is.
Again though, I don't mean to ♥♥♥♥ on Valoran, but it's not really in a state where you can really play it. It looks pretty, but everything is clunky. It's practically just a tech demo (most pre alphas are just that, or even less).
If someone wants to help the development of the game and stuff, by all means I encourage people to help it out that way, whether it be coding or play testing and finding bugs to squish, but if someone wants it as an actual game to play right now? I think most people would probably be better off waiting.
I've never said this game is finished, I just wanted people to know that there are options out there, that's not abandoned. And I completely agree that people can go and help them out, since it's open-source and they are looking for more people to pitch in!
Careful troll, accusing someone of plagiarizing work can have real consequenses.
Also, you realize that you are talking about voxel graphics? It's not like you have an unlimited number and choices when it comes to creating a voxel human, right?
And the glider? That's your complaint? I'm guessing you've tried the common/free glider you get in the beginning, because the higher level gliders are awsome and fun! I tried to see how far I could get from a random mountain and I almost made it across the map. And that's with an epic level glider!
Besides which it has some huge engine improvements over CW. No blue fog, graphic settings for days and a level of detail system that renders long distance terrain all the way to the horizon. They also have tech for huge creatures that lets you climb and run around on them as if their voxels were terrain, Dragon's Dogma style. One thing they've done with that is pilotable boats and airships.
