Cube World

Cube World

A game like cube world
I recently stumbled across a game very similar to cube world, and actually being worked on by its dev, Veloren: The Voxel Adventure Game.

Maybe this can fill the void that cubeworld left.

Edit: Forgot to include the link https://veloren.net/

Hytale indeed seems to be on its way to become the Minecraft 2.0 that never was. (Meanwhile Microsoft is using the Minecraft IP to bring us some mobile AR thing nobody asked for. Typical Microsoft, if anything worthwhile comes from them it would be a massive surprise at this point.) So after the disappointment that is Cube World I'm looking forward to Hytale, to scratch that sandbox open world ARPG itch.

There's also an upcoming game called Valheim, which is a little different especially in terms of art style (its not voxel based). Nonetheless its an open world ARPG with base building, dungeons, bosses and pretty cool pixel art.

Valheim looks... potentially interesting, but may ultimately be just another Rustlike existing only to entertain client hacking griefers. Too early to tell without gameplay examples. Those troll head trophies are one hell of a tease tho. :D

Well Minecraft modding is all about progression. AFAIK your best bet for dungeons is things like Ruins mod that allow communities of non-programmers to design modular schematics. This guy, for example: http://greywolf.critter.net/minecraft.htm

There's a free version on itch.io, but that version is not of representative quality nowadays as the development has continued in the form of a closed beta. I managed to get hold of a beta key, and I have sunk over 150 hours to it at this point (which is a lot in my standards). Its a fun game, would definitely recommend to keep an eye out for it, if its the kind of thing that looks interesting to you ;)

Ehhh there's something deeply *off* about a lot of these indies, the voxel art style looks like a filter inconsistently applied to regular 3d models with no animation or scaling rules for the cubes. Makes me expect the equivalent of a newgrounds flash game or roblox 'experience'.

Yeah many of these seem to be missing the "magic" that the og cubeworld had. Even Wollay's own recent UE5 experiments seem to fall a little short in some way.

Maybe, it's hard to say until we get hold of it in a playable state. Most of the CW magic is just that moving around feels damn good.

Any updates on the game? looks promesing

I woud recommend Veloren but seem they devs wan't to make it with linear progression... Hope it won'Tbe as bad as current CW gear gating but linear progression to me still mean that you clear like 1-2 dungeons and clearing the rest become irrelevant..
