Pet food "rarity"
Is there any documentation on how pet food rarity works? Or is there even pet food rarity?

I've been playing for just over 60 hours now, and in my time playing I've noticed some pet foods are NOTABLY more rare than others, at least in my experience. At the point I'm at now, I've gotten at least 3 of all the pet foods that I've seen, apart from the Apple Ring which I've only gotten one of. Then there are 12 pet foods I haven't even got once (according to the wiki at least) and that's what I'm curious about.

I haven't gotten any of the 4 slime taming items, which just seems off to me; If all drops had equal rarity you'd think I would have gotten at least one of the 4 by now. I haven't gotten the "Water Ice" which according to some people in a discord is the "holy grail" of pet food, and is extremely rare. Then there's various others I haven't seen yet such as the two cupcakes for alpacas, strawberry cake, etc.

The wiki is pretty outdated, does anyone here know much about this system? I really wanna know how it works!

Apparently modders have claimed water ice is not in drop tables. So the same may be for the others too. I have like 80 hours and I haven't seen any of those that you brought up (aside from the apple ring of course), and none of my friends have seen those rare ones either.

Even if they're not in the drop/shop tables, if you hack in the associated pet food item via cheat engine or otherwise for a specific creature, and hold it to them, they will be appropriately tamed, even if the item happens to be a dummy "Pet Food" carrot item. As long as the ID matches the paired creature, it will work.

Some items had their item names removed from alpha to beta/release since it seems the dev never intended for them to be dropped. (Liquid Drop for Cows for instance.)

Oh good, the old 'coveted item at zero percent drop rate' gag for getting people to keep putting the hours in. *Anything* cool from the alpha has been removed just for the hell of it? This isn't a scam release, it's a troll one.

I swear there was more effort put into pet variety and pet foods then usable items with gameplay purposes. Not even the logic on what animal likes what makes sense. It throws you off thinking it's simple logic with bunnies liking carrots, but then when you're feeding dogs bubble gum and crabs alcoholic drinks you realize it's all just arbitrary. All these food items could of been better used on the player for different effects, instead it's just wasted all on pet taming.

Yup! We had a 1 week beta to crush the game-breaking bugs, with regular and consistent patches, then a few weeks of silence, that continues to this day. Game is "stable", so it seems to be considered "finished", or at least that's what the dev's behaviour feels like it is saying.

It almost seems is if they took a page from Star Ocean and implemented more contemporary food and drink in a fantasy setting, which is admittedly a common thing JRPGS do that I don't actually mind and actually find cute, but then they didn't develop the game deep enough to actually make much use of said items, so they just dumped it all on pet taming. It honestly made me believe I had a walking talking pet stack of pancakes or doughnuts like I was running my own Aqua Teen Hunger Force, till I realized it was food for pets.

Oof, that's rough. The spitter looked like a really cool pet, wonder why they scrapped 'em. Does that make the snout beetle the only available ranged pet?

Spitter attacks heal allies like water mage skills, they would have ruined the 'balance' of region locking.

So there's one thing it's made objectively worse. An entire class of pet that cannot exist.
